I know a lot of you guys have reservations on the look of new iDrive dual screen, but having spent some time now in the iX and i4 M50, I can say that the single screen is phenomenal.

The resolution is crystal clear and very responsive. Having so much screen devoted to what you're doing is awesome. Think when you're using navigation you have essentially a 10 inch screen that's as quick and responsive as your iPad. It's really, really good. I'm pumped to see what BMW M adds to it.

Only drawback for me would be the A/C controls but I'm sure once you get the hang of it, it won't be so bad.

Any idea if the display(s) are OLED?

I heard conflicting reports that it is and being that the graphics appear more defined than iD7, I'm assuming this is in fact the case.

The central screen is 4k resolution so that definitely contributes to how much better it looks than ID7 screens. I haven't heard about whether it's OLED or not though.

This article below and a random YouTube influencer/reviewer at the i4 unveiling claimed, in passing, that iDrive 8 had an OLED display.. Take that for what its worth..

Regardless if it's true or not, the graphics and color saturation on iD8 is really a level up from the previous iDrive iterations.

It also uses T-Mobile as its 5G telematics provider, which in my opinion is a step up in price and service from its previous default service provider, AT&T.
