Didn't know whether to believe my BILIL. I found a bottle of Malbec at the cabin, and it was requested I open it to go with tacos de pappas con carne. He started in with "if you really want to properly aerate that, put it in the blender." da fuq?
The empty bottle of Willits had a nice base, but I probably would have spilled at least half trying to pour it into that "decanter" ![]()

^ Inexpensive That makes a bit of difference. $20 is an interesting price point. We were most likely in the blending side of $20, but I didn't buy the wine, simply found it in the cabin. With little/no internet up there, I could check on the bottle.
Seemed the video had no time-lapse in it, so the froth came back down rather quickly. This almost becomes a Bond-like thing: "Blended, not stirred" ![]()

Here you go….The tomahawk ribeye was exquisite. The ‘95 Chateau Montelena not so much. The cork crumbled upon removal. The wine was probably drinkable but was a bit tart and slightly discolored. Had a Stags Leap Artemis as a backup. Poor me.

OK, this may not look like the fanciest wine opener, but this was given to me for Christmas to replace an ancient Rabbit brand wine opener that was falling apart.
It's the Cuisinart RWO-100 EvolutionX automatic wine opener. This thing is fantastic and does a really good job of opening any wine. But the best part is a little trick it has up its sleeve: with a special included stopper, this sucks the air out of an open bottle of red wine, allowing you to store it without the wine degrading. Very cool! What wine openers do you all use? |

A Rabbit for regular stuff, Coravin for the expensive bottles.
I'm "meh" on most wine, so with the Coravin, the Minister of War & Finance can enjoy a glass from one of her "good" bottles without having to drink the whole thing or wait for friends to come over. R.

I have one like this. Been good for the past couple of years. Supposed to open around 30 bottles a charge but the most I got was about 20.
Side note: As of last Saturday I'm not going to drink alcohol anymore. I turn 69 in a few days and I need to look after my health. This is a personal choice for me and I don't find fault with anyone who enjoys drinking. I've enjoyed it in the past but it's my time to quit. Cheers to all. |

Been using this one for more than 20 years.
Edit: Here is my actual opener for most wines. The Durand is excellent for older bottles where the cork is questionable... https://thedurand.com/product/the-durand/

I meant to post this at Christmas, but I forgot.
These are the four bottles of wine that my wife and I got my dad's partner. Of course, we had to go to each winery *personally* to make sure they were acceptable during our last Paso trip (we drove out from Denver). Adelaida, Alta Colina, Linne Calado & Tablas Creek. Every single one is a heavy-hitting winner! R.

I was using an electric that I’d had for years, but it pooped out about a month ago. Back to the old faithful.
Also a pic I received in a text yesterday from Odette. Just thought it cool. Doing a wine dinner tonight. Pics to follow. ![]() |

When the cork looks like this it's simultaneously a good sign and a bad sign. The wine is all but guaranteed to be great but I know I'll need to swish a mouthful of hydrogen peroxide before bed.

I’ve been using this “Screwpull” opener for 10-15 years. I have this standard opener (this it’s referred to as a waiter’s opener?) gifted by my BIL this Christmas but haven’t tried it out yet. Also have a Coravin but rarely use it.

Picked up a couple 6-packs today.
![]() Also, did the wine dinner last night. Materra Winery. The wine was very nice, and I ordered 2 bottles each of 3 different wines. I’ll post some pics when they come in. Met the winemaker, Napa native Harry Heitz of the Heitz family cellars label. He was a nice fellow. Unfortunately, I spaced taking pics. ![]() ![]() |

I never really gave an update on our Daou winery visit from my Paso Robles trip...but I did pick up some exceptional wines. If you want to splurge, take a look at this: Daou Patrimony Black Label We picked up a couple of bottles, and my wife also picked up the Patrimony Blanc wine. Special occassions,- we'll be ready LOL Last edited by BMWGUYinCO; 01-12-2024 at 12:09 PM.. |
