A couple posts up (post #12307) I posted Van Halen's studio version of "Summer Nights." I thought of posting a live version (but liked the studio version better) and found the one I posted below. Notice in the live version Eddie Van Halen with a cigarette that he stuck in the strings of his guitar and every so often he takes a drag on it. It made me think how he died: from a stroke he had while in the hospital suffering from pneumonia and lung cancer.

Eddie was born 6 days after me, January 26, 1955. I used to smoke, from about 14 to my early 40s. It took me years to quit. Was the hardest thing I ever did. I made my wife quit too. She hated me for months, but it was worth it. We're both still alive, at 67, and both in good health. That could've been either one of us in that hospital bed.

Eddie died in 2020 at age 65, in the hospital in Santa Monica, CA. By his side was his current wife Janie, son Wolfgang, ex-wife Valerie Bertinelli, and brother Alex. Very sad and such a waste. One of the best guitar players in the world.

I thought of another time I remember seeing Eddie glamorizing cigarette smoking. He was blowing smoke rings in the music video "Panama," also posted below.
