I must admit I like the studio recording of this track however. It just sounds sharper.
Wow! How f*cking old is that video? You're making me feel old.

Alex and Geddy both have pretty fair string control, especially considering Geddy is primarily a keyboardist and vocalist.

Also, I'm only a couple of years older than you.

^^^ yeah you may be right.

Haha. Okay moving away from Canada and back to my home with a bit of Alice in Chains. The 90s were a different era in Seattle for sure.

A belly full of rum is not enough to truly appreciate that video. Perhaps it's time for this "old man" to call it a night... change my mind.

Wow, reading some of the comments on YouTube under the video. I have to agree with that person's assessment of us Gen Xers. At the same time, as others have stated, music was fucking awesome in the 80s and 90s.

One of the most underrated PJ songs ever. Their debut album "Ten" was insanely good and remains their best album IMO. This track however is simply amazing yet doesn't get airplay. It was in a movie soundtrack however and I was grateful for that.

Vedder's voice ..... it is as though he is truly being "released".

Damn, 31 freaking years ago!

I see the world
Feel the chill
Which way to go
Wind no sail
I see the words
On a rocking horse of time
I see the birds in the rain

Oh dear dad
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll ride the wave
Where it takes me
I'll hold the pain
Release me

Oh dear dad
Can you see me now
I am myself
Like you somehow
I'll wait up in the dark
For you to speak to me
I'll open up
Release me
Release me
Release me
Release me

Candlebox seems to be a bit of a departure from your usual offerings on this thread. What gives?

Me! I listen to these songs and sometimes long for the past, in many ways better days. Things were simpler back then. It was quite a time to be alive growing up in Seattle.

Oh and I threw Candlebox in there precisely because of the reason you touched on. It's a departure but I think that band is relatively unknown, especially to the younger generation. Everyone knows Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden but I'll bet many don't know Candlebox because they never got over that hurdle and reached stardom. Ironically these other aforementioned bands did and then some, but as we know, some took their own lives as a result which is tragic.

Here's something you may appreciate TiMSport given your proclivity to Asian culture.

Haha interesting. Just so you know, my proclivity to Asian culture doesn't reach this sort of thing though, musically speaking. I'm not really an Asian music fan so to speak. There are a few exceptions however.

You're not wrong. I have never heard of Candlebox before tonight. Having only listened to the two songs you presented I'm not sure they had anything to offer that stood out as identifying their individual sound, if you know what I mean. I think it takes something different or unique for a band to "make it big". With my very limited (so far) experience with Candlebox I don't hear anything that makes them stand out.

No worries. Just thought I'd throw it out there. You don't know what you don't know, amirite?

This is my favorite song by them though I posted this several months ago. You're right though. There were a ton of bands in the PAC NW trying to make it and many of them had that sort of style and sound, but most of them don't make it big. They end up doing the small bars and live houses scene but don't make enough money to survive. Such is the life of a musician.

I listened to this one pretty closely. It's a good song. Not outstanding but I can definitely see the talent behind it. I think, and this is simply my opinion, the band needs to exploit the singers sound at the 3:45 to 4:00 point of the song. He has a great voice and needs to lean on it a bit more instead of just going with the band. Does that make sense to you?
