Change! Reviews universally revile the manual in the G87 as being ill suited to this particular car and doesnt work well with the long gearing..

2 weeks ago, i had the opportunity to visit and Alfa Romeo dealer who happened to have a gorgeous ocra colored '23 Giulia Quadrifoglio on the lot that he let me drive. That Zf8 automatic was something I could only dream of. Quick, accurate, snappy shifts in both manual and automatic modes that forever more made me a huge fan of that transmission. Dont even think twice.. Change your order to that transmission and never look back.

I've driven manuals most my life, and I'm currently dailying an ND2 Miata which has an amazing manual
I just remember my 128's manual from back in the day and it doesn't sound like there's been a whole lot of improvements. Couple that with the S58 and I'm leaning auto. Which is sad because I love manuals. |

Road and Track review
Hadn't seen this posted. Couldn't find online so had to scan. Same data as the C&D article. Another very positive review.

Someone, please, explain to me how the manual isn't suited for this car. I haven't figured it out. Someone explain to me how taking the roads faster than I could on F87, and applying power to rotate through them, is less fun. While giggling. Steering numb? No it isn't. You're just parroting bullshit. Ok to be fair you said a "bit." Sure, it doesn't try to rip the wheel out of my hand when in a rut like my Z4MC, but it isn't "numb." I'm missing something. Maybe mine is broke?

I've said it in this thread before and I'll say it again, they all need to get over the fact that it isn't the 80s and 90s anymore.

For an article that talks about "objectivity," it immediately spills a lot of ink about "M-ness", like how the M4 isn't a real "M" car. I have NO idea what point Nico is trying to make here, the definition of "M-ness" is as subjective as it gets.
Likewise all that ink about "how it's like BMW tried to make an M4 and then gave up halfway." Speculation, not objective at all. Or how the M2 is like a GT-R, I don't even know what he's trying to say there. I don't see the M2 as being like a GT-R in any way. So after discarding all that stuff, and trying to extract useful critiques, I ended up with: 1. steering could have more feel (true, not a new thing) 2. manuals less performant than auto (also true, and not new) 3. turns in less precisely than an M4 (true, but it would have been more useful to compare to a car actually in the same segment, no?) I have no problem with the conclusion of "a fine car but could have been more." That is exactly what a first-year, base-model car is supposed to be. So this feels like a win to me. Side note:
All these "track" reviews are great and all that, but I'm still waiting for a more "daily driver" focused review. For example:what about that TEENY TINY gas tank? The awkward LATCH mounts. The sometimes unintuitive behavior of the powered seats. The performance of the wireless charger (is it still awful?). How's the cupholder placement? The sound system? The headlights? The rear trunk latch? |

Hahaha yeah man I am filling up a lot. Lucky to get 200 miles. I also just spend 5 minutes fiddle fucking with the seat adjustment and still haven't figured out how to raise the rear without lowering the thigh and what not lol. I can't use the right cup holder with my manual. I will smash whatever is there. In the left, anything too big and I will activate the audio controls there. BUT, I wouldn't want them behind the shifter in any fashion. The bottle holder in the doors makes up for it. Sound system is great to my ears as the headlights are great to my eyes.

Latch mounts are not awkward. Why do you say that? They’re the same they’ve always been. What do you mean unintuitive behaviour of the seats? They’re very intuitive. Is there anything in particular you find unintuitive? Wireless charger is a scam and I’ve asked my CA to put a formal complaint with BMW, they should be reimbursing owners since they false advertise it on their website. Cupholder placement is fine. Much more useful than in the E82, and it holds larger items in a position that is not disruptive. Sound system (HK) is fantastic. Much better than the HK in the E82. And some reviewers indicate it being true versus the F87 too (even the G80, there’s a guy that has the G80 and now the G87 and said the sound system is much better in the G87). Headlights are great (the adaptive ones). And they open up the possibility to code the anti-dazzle feature for the high beams once coding is figured out for ID8. What about the trunk latch? |
