On the 320i, which has rear drum brakes (circa 1976), the backing plate holds the drum brake components.

But you missed the point. Price is not the issue; the GM backing plate is no longer available new from any source/supplier. Used ones are rusted beyond usability.

I could also point to another critical suspension component of the GM Hummer, the front torsion bar spring adjuster. Same issue. NLA. But we're well off topic.
Sounds like a great opportunity for a small machine shop to make those, they don't appear to be particularly complicated. With advancements.in 3d scanning, one could probably get a pretty workable CAD model for a CNC with just a cell phone.

The Hummer had torsion bar front suspension? That's wild, my colorado had struts up front with coil springs. I would have assumed they stuck with that for the Hummers too.

Anyways, back on topic... What about something bonkers like a Shelby cobra replica?

There's a lovely Interlagos blue Z4M roadster with 55K miles for basically $20K in the USA. That is a LOT of fun for $20K jesus freaking H.

Buy a Cayman and put a deman 4.5 motor swap in it. You'll be over $100K but I think you can get it done with $120 realistically. They can be swapped into a 2016 Gt4 which are coming into realistic territory for you.

The 4.5 easily puts down 475 wheel horsepower with a massive upgrade in torque and is a genuinely badass car. You can customize the gear ratios, exhaust, clutch to your liking/budget.

Or a 991.1 GT3 are coming down into 100ish territory. I know about the finger followers but there are aftermarket options as well as extended warranties. Both would be a lot of car for the money.

How about something completely different.
Wrangler 392 on factory 35s or Bronco Raptor on factory 37s. Or blow your money on a Raptor R?

I'd love to add a GT3, but not sell my current toys for one at this time

Since you were digging the 458, I'd say save up and maybe consider a GTC4 Lusso if you want those epic engine sounds and the stuff. It's overpriced to $150k at least but... well, eh. Still a cool car though if you like it fast and loud. Very daily and family-serviceable too with the shooting brake design.

Close to $200k you could be looking at the 200 something HP hybrid, 800 HP total SL63 AMG E edition.

Though realistically, it also is an overpriced car, very much so. At $100k I'd just get a fancy EV. Lucid might do it...

I know I'm really late to this party, but have you considered a Gen 3 or Gen 4 Viper?

I'm partial to those because of the convertible options.

I have, but I've decided to keep what I have and add something else later when the market corrects more and I actually have space for another car without making it a PITA.

However, I am still open to replacing the 6 with an actual fun to drive winter car that doesn't cost much and is reliable.

My vote under $100k is a 997 or 991 GTS. Maybe a Turbo S if you’re a turbo kind of guy
I was going to say Porsche, but the problem with everything these days is, it doesn't feel like they build them how they used to.

I remember 100K was easy for cars, now it seems like they are junk before then. And not even small issues, usually really expensive catastrophic issues. I would really look into how much "fun" you can have with it, until it gets expensive.

Have you considered an SUV for winter? It can be actually beneficial when it snows.
