Edit - Personal opinion comment pointed at Thomas's desire for the M2 to still be as, uh, squirrel-esque as the F87 and F87c. Most of that was solvable on the F87C by upsizing the tires. 295 rears brought the M2C under control and made it a more usable daily. If I had kept my M2C, I would never have gone back to the stock rear sizes. Didn't like them a bit. Wanting your car to be a constant drift machine is the hallmark of a car that is not driven on a daily basis year-round for most folk. Maybe not Thomas and Chris Harris, but probably not most folk, most of the time. Or just me.
I would look for a harder compound tire JUST for the sake of being sideways more often. I dont put alot of effort into collecting track time receipts
I have a daily, I have an off-roader, I have a weekend garage queen (naturally aspirated V8 Manual), Was hoping the M2 could be my lil drifter that sits up on the lift and comes out when I want to get sideways

Illustrates the fun of the F87. The choice of silly drift-fun or relatively functional daily driver. I have room for one car. My sweet spot ended up being a G80 6MT, but I smile at every M2 I see on the road...even if I didn't end up being entirely satisfied with mine.

Any of you like Matt Maran Motoring? He isn't "special enough" to have been invited to a BMW launch event, but he will be driving my car for review on June 10th. Late to the party, yes, but I like his style.

I’m a big fan of TH. I thought they did a great job again. I also have an F87 CS, and while I think it looks better than the base G87, I don’t the the new car looks bad. In fact, I think it’s considerably better looking than the G82.

The lack of power they felt does surprise me, although only 9 HP up on the old CS and roughly 250 lbs heavier.

I need to see it and drive it, but it seems to keep the fantastic recipe. The only thing I really don’t like are the wheels and the big display screen. Give me real gauges. I could probably look past the tech stuff, and wheels are an easy upgrade.

At $70K it’s starting to play with the big boys. Used base G80s can be had in the high $70s, and I think C8 vettes are now trading hands in the $80s.

Props to BMW for keeping the manual alive. I’m sure the new owners will be thrilled.

I wasn't a big fan of the new M2 until I saw a video of a black one going around the Ring the other day. The car works in black, it just does. Any lighter colors and I get the not so fresh feelings about the car. They really needed to have Thundernight as a color option for this car, what an absolutely huge miss there. The launch colors are just flat out boring all the way around.

If my CS exploded in a fireball (hopefully while I'm not in it), I'd probably go shopping for a new M2 in black. It actually looks somewhat decent unlike the horrific G80/82 disasters.

not that it matters. just where public perception will most likely be on this car.

I struggled to make it through the straight pipes review. I felt it was rather mediocre.

I watched all of the BMWBLOG review which is basically an hour long, but it offers many details and data that the others have not. Horatiu clearly liked the car, especially with the manual. FYI, Horatiu owns a Valencia Orange 1M so his prospective as a 1M owner is much appreciated.

I put on auto translate captions for this video and really enjoyed it. A bit of a different perspective from a foreign outlet.
He also thinks the car looks good in red and black and hideous in lighter colors so I'm already liking this guy haha

Thomas from TH has been racing and wrenching on BMWs way before his channel was popular. People can call them influencers all they want, but in reality he sets a very high bar on what a proper BMW M car should be. Sorry to all the fanboys here, but it does not surprise me that some people this community are so butthurt about his criticisms.

Agree. I love TH - their videos continue to get better and better. Also I find it a little ironic that there so many G87 hopefuls ready to criticize the TH review for being biased while unabashedly defending a car that they’ve never actually, you know, driven.

Moto Man

Moto seemed to operate the manual car just fine.

Yes, he owns an F87. If you watched the whole video maybe you noticed the BMW he races is not an F87

They spent alot of time bashing the looks of the car, which is subjective, and fine for them to not like, but that amount of bashing isn't gonna incline people who like the look of it to take their review into consideration.

Couple that with the strange complaint of "too much grip" and them being the only reviewer to have an issue with the manual power band, it's easy to consider their video to be a bit biased, especially given their clear love for the f87. (Their 'Most beautiful car of all time' )

I honestly didn't think the 0 to 60 3.5 sec or quarter mile 11.9 times would be faster than the xdrive m240i. And on regular asphalt. I'm pleasantly surprised. Just wait till car and driver tests it.

I've seen 3 of these vids so far... throttle house, straight pipes and joe achilees.

Objectively, as a former M2C owner who didn't think it was that great, EVERYTHING about this new car seems to be better... it can actually now grip, doesn't go sideways at every turn and the chassis is far more settled. It appears BMW worked towards the Porsche formula here and actually made it a far more objectively better track car... and may actually set some solid lap times on the stock tires.

The only legitimate complaint I see here is maybe the weight... otherwise it's a win all around. I hope everyone hates it so I can get mine sooner lol... Joe A ran an 11.9 in the 1/4 without even trying... why? Again, because this car can actually grip... send me one in black pls.
