It is a 2500 model! I think the strap is actually for the 8500 though. I think the reference was 98000297, I got it from an Omega dealer but it took around 4 weeks to come into stock.

I've been drooling over Omega watches for the past 24 months. Finally, I'm now a lot closer to realizing this dream. I'd like to understand what would some of the watch experts would recommend as the best approach to buy a New Omega. We have an Omega Boutique in Houston but I'm not sure if they will be willing to negotiate on the price. I'd like to stay away from Black Market resellers such as Ashford or Jomashop primarily due to warranty concerns on a high ticket item such as this. Do the local Jewelry shops offer better prices? Are there any online resellers that provide original Omega Warranty? How would you guys approach finding the right balance between a good price and Omega's original warranty and authenticity?

Appreciate your feedback in advance ....
Jomashop is legit... Yes, you may have warranty concern, but you save $3-4k right off the bat, and that's more than enough to fix any issue you may have w/ your Omega timepiece for the next 1-2 decades.
I bought mine from Jomashop, and have it maintained @ Omega Boutique. Couldn't be happier. Just my 2 cents.

Jomashop is legit. I believe the correct term is "grey market". Not "black market" as the other guy posted. These are new watches purchased from authorized dealers, often from other countries, which they are reselling.

The only concern with Jomashop is resale. Jomashop items do not have a factory warranty and the resale value takes a hit if you want to sell it. I sold a watch I purchased from Jomashop... I took a hit on my watch value because everyone wanted the warranty cards from an AD.

It's a pity they don't do the 45.5mm case in steel anymore without a chronograph complication.

Curious... will Omega service a grey market watch for maintenance? And when serviced will it receive the 2 year warranty from Omega?

You need a properly stamped (AD) Omega warranty card. Can't answer the 2nd question, never taken in mine for service yet.

I just got my Omega Seamaster back from Omega Maintenance. They do check the serial numbers when they check the watch in and it did get a new stamped warranty card from the Omega Boutique store. However the watch I serviced was bought at an authorized dealer.

I guess I'll just ask them next time I'm at the Omega Boutique.

That should be fine then. I bought my Speedmaster from a US AD (trusted seller online purchase) and came with a warranty card. I took it to an Omega boutique to verify it and was all legit.

Just wondering if the same would be true for a jomashop grey market Omega.

Cause then one could just buy from jomashop and save thousands and then take it to an Omega boutique for service and get the 2 year factory warranty.

They won't honor Jomashop. They're not an AD and won't come with a stamped Omega warranty card.

It will come with Jomashop own warranty. I'd rather spend the extra money for piece of mind and buy at least from a online trusted seller.

I could have spent a little less and bought one that had an overseas AD warranty card, but I wanted one from the US.

I don't mean to have Omega warranty it and do a free service.

I'm talking about paying for the $550 maintenance service where the watch gets completely taken apart, every part inspected and cleaned, replace all the gaskets, etc etc.

Except this service would be done with a brand new grey market Omega instead of an older non grey market Omega that just needs maintenance.

Would Omega let a customer pay the $550 to service a grey market Omega and then would they still put the 2 year warranty that is included in the factory service?

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from a grey market dealer.

I usually don't buy current models in any case (none really appeal to me enough to want to - yet), but I don't care about warranty and have my watches serviced in the after market by qualified service people at much lower price than sending it to Omega.

There doesn't seem to be an issue with them getting original parts from Omega, although price can vary. I just had a 15 year old rose gold and titanium Seamaster in for a full service and was told the crown had a worn thread (and hard to get in 18K rose gold) and cost $500 in Canada. Managed to find it in the US and got it here for around $200 less after taxes and shipping.

If you want really good condition used watches, look to Japan. I bought a Speedmaster that came with all original box and material and it looked brand new - I doubt the owner wore it more than a few times! There are several reputable Ebay sellers in Japan that sell watches made within the last decade or so for reasonable prices.

Oh, in that case, Omega doesn't care where you buy it from. Just make sure it's a real Omega. lol

Can't say 100%, but I would say with high certainty that any watch Omega services will come with a warranty for their work.

It's been a few years since I've collected Omegas (used to have a Speedy triple date, 3575 moonphase, and the old Bond Seamaster chronograph; now only have a couple of vintages left, I'll post a pic later on) but I never had a problem in the past taking an Omega in for paid service to an authorized service center.

Like mentioned above, they won't honor the Omega warranty if it wasn't purchased from an AD, but you can pay for the service and then they'll warranty that service. I used to even send watches back to Bienne for that, not sure if Omega still lets you do that. There's a pretty vibrant after market community so Omega sees a lot of watches with a lot of different owners getting service.

Just make sure, especially if you're buying grey market or second hand, that the watch does have intact serial numbers.

Went to try on the Speedmaster Racing with the yellow rubber strap. Really fell in love. Might try and pull the trigger on one by the end of the summer.

I?ve always wanted a good chronograph, and the Rolex Daytona is just too far out of reach right now (and has a stupid waiting list unless you want to pay 30% markup putting the steel watch at over $17k). I?d rather save up for the stainless skydweller with the blue face
