From their colors, website design, and even product design, they are certainly trying to copy Race Chip.

Ran a best speed of 140.74 at RaceMotive yesterday on map 7. Super impressed with that because I was only expecting to run mid 130s. I just got home and I have a bunch of stuff to do, but when I have a minute I'll do a write up.

I have the auto, it was ran on M TC 0. Launch control always seems to bog down for the first few feet, but I still had my autocross tires on so they have some good grip 295/35/19 Advan A052. I want to get the XHP trans tune so I can change the boost ramp for launch control just havent done it yet.

Warrenty on G87 with Racechip

Does anyone have any information on weather or not the racechip will void your warranty or is it all up to if the dealer is mod friendly

Yes, if your car develops a problem which BMW believes might be connected to tuning, they WILL void your warranty.

And BMW is getting more strict with tuning.

RaceChip includes a $10,000 warranty, however.

The coverage of your warranty is protected by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and not up to your dealer.

any damage caused by mods, the dealer does not have to repair it free of charge.
However, for any damage that is unrelated to any mods, the dealer is required to fix it under the warranty.

get proven mods and use the recommended maps. By doing so, you'll likely experience the same positive outcomes as the countless other tuned cars on this forum.

your warranty isn't automatically voided by modifications. If your vehicle has damage directly related to mods, you shouldn't expect the dealership to cover the repair costs for free, which is reasonable.

However, If you encounter a separate issue that isn't linked to the mods, your warranty will cover the repairs.

Regarding the perception that BMW is stricter with warranty claims on modified vehicles, I can only speak from my experience with numerous clients and my own fully built, leased BMWs.

There is no evidence indicating a shift in BMW's warranty policy towards being more stringent. If such a change had occurred, we would expect many cases on this forum discussing voided warranties, which we have not.

Also note that any major change would be illegal per the magnuson-moss warranty act

It is up to the dealer.
If you don’t feel comfortable with them, best to remove it.
The beauty of RaceChip, you can just remove the module and use the bypass plug, then hide it.
In general, for regular service, most cases they don’t care.

Mike,

All of this is accurate, BUT, for the average owner it is difficult -- if not impossible -- to hire a lawyer and challenge a warranty decision made by BMW under the federal act ... which is why it almost never happens. The burden of proof is ALL on the owner. Dealers (and of course the manufacturers) know this.

Just search YouTube for the G87 warranty denials of brake issues being blamed on aftermarket HAS.

Which was why Dinan used to be so widespread. Installed by the dealer, factory matching warranty.

So, as with any mod, we need to go in with eyes wide open

I agree with you.

However, legal action involving vehicle tuning is uncommon, particularly for simple tunes. It's crucial to weigh this rarity against the vast number of tuned vehicles on the road.

This forum is the perfect data pool, with hundreds of thousands of users and daily threads for the last 15 years. it's so uncommon to find a denied warranty that I don't even remember the last time this was mentioned.

That being said, no modification comes with a 100% guarantee. There's always a minimal level of risk involved. If the car owner is uncomfortable with this minimal risk, the best course of action would be to keep the car stock.

Two questions:

Why doesn’t the Racechip website list the G87?

Any plans for a Black Friday discount?

Mike,

Can you give us some info on the two options that can be added?

And key differences between RC and JB4?

Thanks.

The JB4 stands out for its advanced capabilities, offering more than just an increased boost. It monitors fueling, air-to-fuel ratio, wastegate duty cycle, and ignition. This real-time monitoring allows the JB4 to be both aggressive in performance and safe, as it can swiftly revert to the stock map if it detects any issues. Additionally, the JB4 offers features like data logging, customization, boost by gear for improved traction, and boost by RPM for smoother power delivery, among other options.

On the other hand, while the Race Chip may not match the JB4 in terms of features, it does provide an advantage for stock cars with its variety of maps. The JB4 typically offers one map per stage (fuel type) and a customizable map. The Race Chip comes with seven maps, most compatible with various stages and fuel, although I recommend not exceeding map 5 for 91 octane, map 6 for 93 octane, and map 7 for race gas or E85. Additionally, the Race Chip is easier to install.

I hope someone can clarify this for me regarding the RaceChip map setting. Do you need to add downpipes at any point to increase the level? If not, is there any benefit, other than sound, to adding the DPs?

I miss the old Cobb AccessTuner days on my '08 335i where you knew which map to load based on your mods. Also, wish there was the pro-tune option like there used to be with Cobb.
