I’m glad BMW is dunking on everyone in this forum who said it would never happen and told people interested in it that maybe an M2 wasn’t for them since it had no place in an M2.
I’ll repeat what I’ve always said: why would anyone be against BMW offering an OPTION that interests others? Nobody will force you to get xDrive. Just how an automatic is offered but nobody is forced to pick it. If you want 6MT option 6MT. If you want RWD then get the RWD. Easy. Done. |

It’s been an option for a while now though. While I’d prefer they keep it an option, because Im not the person who wishes to force my taste on others… if it has to be just one or the other, then let’s go xDrive now. People in both camps will have had the opportunity to get what they wanted.

Inevitable. And not a bad thing.
For those of you like me (I still want an analog[ish] DD with a MT and RWD [excluding the need for an additional utility vehicle]) but who want a new car, grab your RWD, MT G87 M2 while you can! Or if you don't need a new car, reach into BMW M's deep lineup and pick a lightly used one that makes sense for you before it becomes an unaffordable "classic." I'll stick with my current lineup for fun and eventually succumb to whatever I need to "drive" as DD in five years.

Exactly. Life’s too short to turn your BMW into an cringey AUDI!! Get the best snow tires you can and go for it like many of us have done for YEARS.

I do not intend to get any AWD coupe from BMW or otherwise, but I suppose it's fine as long as it is just another option. However, it would be a big problem if RWD+6MT wasn't offered due to this offering. I might have considered if it were DCT, but 8AT is a no-no.

more color options inside and out option for ceramic brakes more space inside (2 adults can easily fit in back) longer wheelbase = better ride / more stable bigger fuel tank you get what you pay for with both cars. M4 gives you more options to spec it your way and you get more space without a weight penalty. base m4 is lighter than the m2 despite being bigger.

xDrive is a win in the M3 and M4. Should be a grand slam in the M2 especially if you can disengage the front wheels like you can in the others.
And to people who ask why not just get an M4 CX?...It's significantly longer, has the controversial beaver teeth grille and is ~$20K more expensive in the US. If I can get a well equipped M2X for $70-75K, I can't think of any other sports car in that price range that I would prefer. Don't like it? Buy a current M2. They are great too! What’s a point of M2x, if you can get m4cx that weighs almost the same, 40lbs difference if I’m not mistaken, and you get better stability for both track and daily usage, more space, etc. Price? I don’t think that m2x that will come out will be much cheaper then current m4cx. Can somebody explain me why would anyone trade additional space in the back for 40lbs, assuming that if you want to buy m2 in XDrive configuration instead of RWD you are already looking for practicality. I think that current line up makes much more sense where you can get m4cx as an ultimate weapon that will destroy everything on the straight and can make smoke on the corners by switching it to 2wd and m2 with 6mt that still has some rawness and provides old fashioned rwd experience.

By this logic you should also ask what the point is offering an 230i xDrive when there's a M240i xDrive? Or why offer a 2 Series xDrive when there are 3 & 4 Series xDrive models? Why offer a 3 or 4 Series xDrive when there's a 5 Series xDrive... blah blah blah
