When the guy who founded a company that makes high end 1911s (Wilson Combat) tells you he favors 9mm, people should probably pay attention.

Beard and pistol intimidation should do the trick. Especially if you have the beast with you.

I'd like to buy an upgraded AR... like one of the $1240 sig models... my current has the fixed front sight and its very entry level, so a bit PITA.

I don't see an issue with this. I have a $1000 upper on a lower i bought for $75. Never an issue.

define crappy lower?

Whats crappy about it?

All the lower does is hold the FCG and sit between the stock and the upper

There's not a tremendous amount of precision here

best upgrade IMHO aside from a decent quality upper is a good 2 stage trigger......Rock River, Larue and a bunch of others make wonderful triggers

You could stick a hacked off hunk of wood on the end of the buffer tube and I could GAF but there's no substitute for decent trigger and open sights

Agree, get a nice drop in trigger and a nice upper will likely = great rifle.

I have no issue with building a stripped lower and mating it to a complete upper. But when it comes to building an upper, even though it's pretty straight forward, i don't want a hobby gun. I want it to go bang every time i pull the trigger. So i only go with a factory rifle or a complete factory upper.

M&P Sport is not a crappy rifle. Pretty much the only short coming of that rifle is the barrel, specifically the lack of chrome lining. I would have no issue slapping any upper on an M&P Sport lower.
