Consider yourselves lucky, the ROW cars get drilled at the factory and have the German-style tray mount installed there. So all our M2s come pre-drilled!

I haven't had a front plate on any of my vehicles since 1997, in any state that I've lived (only one was a single plate state). I currently have 4 vehicles without front plates.

Looking back through this thread & the owners who stated the DMV requires the dealers to install the front plate before giving you the vehicle. Simply put a strip of double-sided tape on the back of the plate, attach it, drive off the lot & then remove it. Forget the aftermarket brackets & screwing into the fascia.

Been preaching for years that if the DMV allowed a plate sticker at an additional cost to be placed inside the cars corner of the windshield, they'd make a killing raking in the $$$ from everyone that doesn't want a front plate.

Sly Brackets Front Plate Install / Review

I wanted to share photos of my front plate install with everyone and for future reference, but didn't want to create another dedicated thread. So this looks like a good place to add some photos as reference.

I installed a Sly Brackets front plate - link here for $90ish.
Installation was simple. The bracket attaches to the vertical struts in front of the radiator with two spring loaded clamps. You use a installation tool to expand them and clamp them on the struts, then remove the tool so they are locked in place and cant be removed. Very secure, and the mounting bracket for the plate itself is also all meatal and sturdy. Overall, I think it's a good system (and maybe an added benefit is that it provides some radiator protection as well?).

Photos below with it installed in front of a Radiator Grille Store mesh.

That disrupts a significant amount of airflow to the radiators - probably not an issue for street use, except in very high temps, but I would be cautious.

Sto-n-sho is a great option, also with the advantage you can pop the plate on and off in seconds.

So no issues with the plate hitting the road with it being lower than the bottom of the bumper?Do you see any mounting clamps when you pop the plate off?

It is rather low, probably too low on a lowered car. I typically don't have it on, just when on a trip or when parking downtown Portland ($85 ticket for no front plate). Parking bumpers are the main thing with plate mounted, but I've learned to stop short of those. I reinforced behind the plate with a sheet of carbon fiber to prevent it from getting bent. Uses factory bolts under the lip. This is on my GLE which did not use factory bolt locations. To remove you pull that ring.

It looks particularly good with a carbon fiber frame.

I’m in TX, wife and I haven’t had a front plate for over 20 years and cops never even mention it when pulled over.

A work colleague actually only had the euro novelty plate for the rear and never had issues either. I’m sure it depends on municipality but in San Antonio no importa nada.

I never ran with a front plate until 5 years ago, when I was stopped 3 times within a week. The cops in the suburb next to mine were obviously looking for any reason to write someone up. Even after I put a front plate on my Audi S4, they would only forgive one of the three tickets. So, I had to pay $156 for the other two.

When I picked up my 2024 M2, I grudgingly put the factory front license plate bracket, because I didn't want the hassle and I have to drive through that suburb to get to work.

To my eyes, it looks as good as any other alternative and I just don't want to give the money-hungry police department any more money, even for something as petty as no front plate.

I do have the carbon option throughout, so I also put carbon license plate borders on front and back, and it looks a little better.

To each their own, I guess . . .
