If the screen is not close enough it makes no sense [to remove the rotary controller], he said, adding, “In the 2 Series [Active Tourer] it’s a different architecture, and the screen is pretty close - it’s quite convenient to control with touch.”

They better not get rid of the controller. Touch screens suck for driving, gesture control is a PITA and goes off when you don't want it too.

Cadillac for years went down that route and it was a gong show.

The intuitive way that rotary controller works is great plus you can use it with gloves on in the winter without any issue.

BMW engineering needs to give their collective heads a shake.

The current setup in the G42 230/240 will not be carrying over to the G87 though. I wish it was, but it is not.

This customized G42 that made the front page of bimmerpost looks amazing. I can only imagine how epic the G87 will look.

The dash is the same as the 2-series active tourer

But I suggest we go back to the topic of the thread.

We were discussing if there will be an iDrive controller or not.

Probably missing the controller due to cost cutting for the cheapest bmw models. No reason to think they will remove for 2 series and up, at least not for this generation.

Pretty sure G87 has SP18 even though production starts after vehicles with SP21. Unclear what that means for interior & available tech.
