Yeah maybe so… there's something unusual about this car… first I hated it… but I can't stop looking at it and I'm actually starting to really like it despite seeing its "ugliness" compared to F87…. Definitely not as elegant and looks simpler with more sharp geometry….

Still just an absolute nightmare. It's like the designers are playing a game to try to show they can shove any POS down our throats and we will buy because it's M.

After going on the UK configuration, the BSM is the only color I would consider but still o don't see any advantage over my 2020 M2 Comp.

Such an incredibly thought provoking "executive" summary. Side note for the deep thinker, you can appreciate and be happy with what you have while simultaneously appreciating and/or wanting what you don't, these concepts don't need to be mutually exclusive.

Of course.

Feel free to enjoy fanning the embers of want. But beware of getting consumed by the fire.

Time and life moves on, that's true. But like most who drive a car they like, I won't have any less 'Freude am Fahren' with mine in the meantime. Genuinely happy for all those getting the G87 M2 in the meantime. It also promises to be a good piece of kit.

But be happy you don't need to register this car in France where the environmental registration tax 'malus écologique' will be €50K in 2023 for the 6MT (CO2 of 226-230) and €40K-€45K for the ZF8 automatic (CO2 of 218-222). Or in The Netherlands where the 'BPM', 'registration tax, 'readying cost' ('kosten rijklaar maken') and 'recycling tax' is over €44K for the 6MT and almost €40K for the ZF8.

'Malus écologique' tariffs applicable in France for 2023: https://www.largus.fr/actualite-auto...-10982397.html

Considering VAT and environmental registration taxes charged in several European states, US forum members over here shouldn't complain too much about the price charged in the US for this car. Seen from a French or Dutch perspective, this car is a bargain in the US.

In the Netherlands;

Base price AT; €113k

With MT; €118k

With the most important options; €140k

So according to your standards this ain't no M car ?

BMW 2002 Hommage Concept (2016) (see for example here and here):

BMW Vision M Next (2019) (see for example here):
All three of those have major body creases which are the equivalent of a "vent" character line. New M2 does not.

The e46 M3 is still the best looking car they ever made. Since the 2 series launch I have been hoping BMW would one day recreate a modern version of that car. The first 2’s or 1 series I guess, was too stubby. The F22 was almost there. Just a wee bit more of a stretch in trunk area and remove a few extra creases here and there. The G30 & G20 were steps in the right direction, particularly with the LCI versions getting the simpler headlight design. But the G87 is a big miss looks wise. My hopes are crushed. I’m not sure they’ll ever get back to the design elements of the 80’s & 90’s when they were at their peak. Chris Bangle ruined BMW’s looks and he still seems to have a heavy influence. The 911 is a perfect example of how you can take a classic design, refresh it and still look modern. They should literally go back to the e46 and update that car. Trash everything in between.

Major body creases, functional vents, low sitting splitter and grippy tires:

Opinions about the overall look aside, what's up with the hood/bumper transition? The curves don't match up, but it's so apparent that it doesn't seem to be a mistake.

Personally, I think the lights and the performance seats are the best bits everything else just looks messed up, I feel like it reminds me of the Honda Civic Type R when it was released with all that boy racer body kit on, I do love the Type R but the new M2 just looks like someone has fired a body kit from ACS on it. I guess, the more you look at it the more it will start to look alright as most things do, but I think In this regular guise it's nothing special. Even the square front intakes, they just look shit.

True- a lot of ugly, unforgettable cars. Remember the 1996 Ford Taurus? You knew it was probably a good car but it was just as awkward as a teenager as a school dance.

For some of us (including myself) we are drawn to the unusual designs because we know deep down they are unique.

BMW did it again- a success the way they wanted to do it.
