If I read something that I feel I would like to appreciate it would seem that the powers that be are now going to decide whether or not my appreciacian of any particular post is valid, mmm seems like censorship to me

It's a random algorithm that changes by the day.....mine has went up or down by 1000 points daily. Tomorrow I might have a few reps and the next day thousands. Think the mods are getting a kick out of this. Probably better to not take reps seriously as there is not any consistency.

We are trying to find the best balance in the algorithm so it takes time. We might just go back to 1 point across the board to keep it simple but we can't find the best balance unless we apply the algorithm across the board and see how it plays out, which takes about a day to implement for each change.

For the vast majority of people the changes are subtle, but for the people who have most of their reputation on the off topic boards and don't have much activity on the main forums they are seeing the wild fluctuations.

Why not let the appreciates show in the ot and then just keep them away from adding to the total? That way we get the instant gratification we desire, and the real threads would shine through more?

Or maybe if we just put the word BMW somewhere in OT posts we get credit for actual car forum post. For example: If I say in the political section " What do you guys think about Trump and the porn star? I wonder she did a BMW to him?" I would get the full points as if I posted in a tech section.

Good idea?
