I don't get why some people here associate gay people and girls convertibles. These days, I think gay can people drive whatever they like, let's not group them collectively as owning convertibles. So, I think there is no definitive gay or girl car imo. My cousin who is a girl happens to own a 335i non vert!
I do understand where you guys are coming from though.

Chick cars become chick cars not so much by features but marketing.
People will buy dryer lint if marketed properly. There is nothing inherently feminine about 4 wheels and an internal combustion engine. Female marketing demograph success stories: Honda - so successful that they created the Acura line so that at least some sales would come from the other half of the population. Honda dealers are great places to meet women. VW - especially passat and jetta. I used to see 20-something male software programmers driving them in the 90's but no more. There may be a y chromosome scanner installed in them now to prevent starting. Convertibles - nearly all manufacturers have a chick line here. Other marketing demographies: Old People: Buick Toyota Camry Subaru Outback Cadillac Academia: Saab Volvo |

edit: actually, nevermind. I was thinking about it in the wrong sense of poser. I was thinking "all show, no go" kind of poser, not status kind of poser.

not really actually. sure i would take an m3 if i didnt buy it. but i love the noise my car makes and the power it has. im never left wanting for more. i really cant see the justification in the big price gap between an m3 and a 335

exactly. to each his own. to be honest my dad bought my car and i could have gotten what ever i wanted... i chose the 335. for reasons stated above. just because its not my money doesnt mean i dont also see stupidity in certain excesses.

Women make up half the population and make quite a bit of the buying decisions. Considering I see women driving all kinds of cars, it could easily be said that ALL cars are chick cars...
Cars like the Miata were patterned after the traditional sports car, an impractical bit of transportation that was traditionally male oriented. Cars like MGAs and MGBs, Fiat 124 Spiders, Triumph TR3s and TR6s, Austin Healey 3000 (a car that the Z4 was patterned after) and the Lotus Elan (which was the direct inspiration for the Miata). They were successful sports racing cars (and Miatas still are). But somehow guys who apparently don't make enough of their own testosterone naturally and have to have it supplied by their cars, have taken to calling them chick cars... Sorry, a chick car is the individual car owned by a chick, but not the type of car. A Miata ownd by a chick is a chick car. A Miata owned by a guy is not.
