That is why I am pretty much convinced those are in fact the base model seats. They are the seats we get in the US on the M240. They took the effort to modify M240 seats by applying alcantara inserts, blue stitching, and embossing the leather upper with "M2". Those seats don't exist in that configuration. For what reason...when they could just use some random swapped black seats from M240 for testing. My question is...does the auto comp mule with the carbon buckets normally have M4 sport seats standard, making up some of the comp delta.

Manual base gets two sets...OGM2-like seats standard and $3800 carbon bucket option.

Auto Comp...a guess. Since the mule had carbon buckets optioned, it could very well have M4 sport seats as standard with the carbon bucket option.

It would follow the F87, OG and Comp getting different standard seats. Only new thing is carbon bucket option for both models.

That makes sense.They wouldn't be having press drives with these base seats if they weren't going to be available.The carbon fiber bucket seats would be my choice.

I looked into the X3M base model in the US and am seeing the same seats as the standard option. But if you opt for extended leather, you get better seats which look to be similar to the G80 base seats. Obviously no carbon buckets bc it's an SUV. So I'm guessing this will follow something similar and will ultimately have 3 options. But maybe I'm wrong. If so, my decision would be made easy to go for the carbon buckets.

That is how the M240 is outside the US. In the US we are stuck with the base M240 seats, with sensatec and leather.

That is what Joe basically said in his video as well(referring to his market...UK). For some reason the US doesn't get the Msport seats in 2series. I still believe the seats from that manual left hand drive mule is the US spec base seats. Honestly I hope I am wrong and US gets the Msport seats, they look better.

If that logic continues then we're screwed in the US, since we never get the m sport seats that are available overseas. That would be really dumb Of them to do that though since the US is guaranteed to get the manual, indicating we have major enthusiast demand for the nicer of the m sport seats.

It is this simple, if we, the U.S. market get what is considered to be the sub-par seats as standard then suck it up and check the box for the carbon buckets @ $3800.00.

FYI, BMW Blog is U.S. based, Chicago area in fact, so I would speculate all the info that Horatiu has provided is in the interest of the U.S. market. BimmerToday, their sister blog is EU based. Repeatedly we have heard that the M sport seats out of the current M3/M4 will be the standard seats. No one has deviated from that and until we see or hear otherwise that is all we have to go on.

So far I like everything I see and read. One thing that may sound picky to some but bothers me a lot is that it seems, again, that black will be the only interior color option. I can't see myself paying anything over $50K for a car with a boring black interior. booooo.

No, but all the leaks, those prototypes and those special bespoke M2 carbon fibre seats we have seen so far were black. Since we have yet to say any previous gen or next gen M2 with an interior other than black, I feel it is a legit concern.

those base seats will not come to most markets. it will be the current M3/M4 seats
