Of course, it might have been mostly a marketing gimmick but they did have posters spouting this claim.

I have a very soft spot for e36, as I’ve owned one. To me this new M2 reminds me of some of the boxier lines of the e36, especially the front bumper. Looking forward to getting one!

Yes. What I was essentially referencing.

BMW E36 M3: European Spec vs. American Compared to the European version, the U.S.-spec E36 M3 was hardly an M car at all. Car & Driver https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cul...an-bmw-e36-m3/

Worked last time. Just a photoshop of a light gray color. Doesn’t really look like BG.

The M2 also has the boxy fenders of the E30 M3!

The more you look at the design, the more you see all of the 'homages' to older designs.

The E36 M3 was my first aspirational car, but by the time I could afford one, the E46 was out and missed my chance!

+1. I love the e30 inspired fenders and the side skirts.

Not owning an e36 may have been a blessing in disguise. There were so many weak points in the car, main one being a faulty cooling system involving radiator neck, water pump, thermostat, plastic fan, head gasket… not to mention all of the interior pieces that would fall apart… ask me how I know

BMW’s cooling systems have always been a weak link though. It certainly was not exclusive to the E36. Ask me how I know.

I have owned two E36's. Some of the most solid BMW's I have owned. My E46 M3 had the cheapest plastics made, all the interior plastics peel.

There hasn't been a M car built without some massive weak point. E46 have two major ones, cracking around rear subframe mounts and rod bearings.

This...BMW N54 and N55 water pumps are known failure points. Cooling system overhaul is recommended at 60k miles, that is a joke.

Don't forget rear sub-frame issues.

The proble///Ms continued with the E90/2's S65 also having rod bearing failures. The F80/2/7c's S55 has a weak point with spun crank hubs, although that's not super common it's still a major concern. Fingers crossed the S58 will be the most reliable M engine. It has better lubrication than previous M engines and they've finally fixed the crank hub issue so that's no longer a concern.

Another weak point on M cars from a driving perspective has been brake fade. It seems they've improved that on the G80/2 compared to the F series M cars but it's still not as good as it should be. The G80 Nurburgring Taxi had issues with it and they needed to install ducts to help cool them which seemed to resolve the issue.

Yeah I've read the rear single floating caliper pad is a weak point in the brake system. I can't think of another car with six up front and one in the back...kinda weird TBH to have that small of a unit. Also a flaw of the red caliper choice drawing attention to it.

Mercedes AMG as well, AMG-GT included.
Basically all cars with the electric parking brake, excluding the more expensive supercars of course.
I think only the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio still has the four-piston rear calipers, but the integration of the electric parking brake is not something you can call good looking.

What is the correlation between an electric parking brake a single floating caliper?

Typically the electric motor that clamps the pads works on a lead screw against the single piston. It is difficult to engineer an electric system that works on more than one piston at a time. The Porsche Macan S and GTS also have 6 piston front calipers with single piston rear due to the electric parking brake.

Cars with handbrakes that use the rear caliper as opposed to a separate drum-in-disc-hat parking brake also have single piston floating rear calipers with a cam that operates on the piston to clamp the brake on.
