I do agree. There is something about the gauges in the car that are not very appealing. Be nice to be able to code different ones.

My son-in-law has an X3 with the HUD, and he said the same thing - it's more difficult to see with polarized glasses, but you can see it.

Regarding HUD and polarized sunglasses, yes, it makes the HUD virtually disappear. It does it my X5, my Silverado, and the wife's Lexus TX. Tilting your head just a little makes it appear. Not sure if there is a setting to tilt the angle the light comes in at in HUD settings but pretty sure there is not as I have played with the HUD settings pretty extensively on the X5 to get the position and brightness how I like it. If your sunglasses are not polarized, there won't be a problem other than, obviously, it will appear dimmer since you are wearing sunglasses... I test-drove the M2 the other day, and it had a HUD. It was not obtrusive. The driving experience with a manual transmission doesn't really require a tach or shift points on the HUD, but I still like having it. I guess I'm just used to it. I like the speed limit sign, and the speedometer in the HUD makes me more aware of just how fast I'm going—something I will need to keep in mind on the M2 even more than on our other vehicles. |

Had it on many cars but rarely pay attention to it. Plus not as clear/easy to read with my sunglasses.

What is the "M Content"? Is that customized gauge clusters? Tune settings better? I am spec'ing out mine now and am uncertain about this package. Can I assume there is no HUD projector in the dash without this package too?

"M Content"? I have the HUD in my i4. I won't buy another BMW without it.

One thing is shift lights that flash when you need to shift gears. Probably more important for automatics vs stick shift, though I suppose it could help if the music is turned up so loud you can't hear the motor. I think it also includes a g-force widget but that doesn't seem very useful. I don't know what else. Maybe your drift score from the drift analyzer? Not useful but cool if so, to not have to take your eyes off the road to see your score. But I don't plan on drifting around town and have no good tracks in the state, so... ymmv

The people who didn't spec it or have it will always say that it is not needed which is not a lie. But if it was offered at no charge, no doubt they would opt for it and the ones without problems seeing it would eventually realize that it really is more convenient than looking a few more inches down at the gauge as silly as that sounds but every inch counts I tell myself...

Agree 100%, far from a "gimmick". Not only does it display speed limit & your speed, but also turn-by-turn navigation whether using oem nav or Carplay. Keeps your eyes looking straight ahead where they belong.

Along with radio and presets. Definitely not a gimmick. The first time I test drove an i4 I knew I needed it. While keeping my eyes on the road I went to triple digits. Definitely useful enough for speed. But some people will opt out. All I can say, is find a car (any car) with it before you decide not to pay the $1100. I typically order every option when I order a car. I will never say, "I wish I had a feature". I might say I spent a little too much.
