I'd pay more for a lighter m2, even more than I'd pay for the m3. I know that will be the CS, but then I will most likely have to give up the 6mt. I want it all and am willing to pay for it all.

iDrive 8.5 comes out this Summer, which will, hopefully, improve the menu structure.

After watching that interview and see how they fumbled around questions like CS, no plans for X-Drive trying to emphasize that this will be a “fun” and drivers car that like manual and you see powertrain and drivetrain they are going to keep it an M4 lite to keep it an affordable entry M car. XDrive would add… 150 lbs?? And the M2 still weighs close to M240i with XDrive even with the carbon bits they have on it. M4 Competition is already 3997lbs RWD ultimatespecs.com (Competition XDrive 4306 on BMW site). How can they cut more weight and keep cost low? Who would buy a M2 CS at 3900+lbs? I personally don’t think the R35 is a legend. At least it goes 0-60 in 3 due to its AWD but it gets beaten around the track because of its weight. If it didn’t go 0 to 60 so fast I doubt it would command the attention and price it did.
Other cars lengendary for other reasons… Supra doesn’t matter if it’s heavy when you can mod a truck engine to 1000+ hp and made famous from the F&F fans. Quote:

ive owned some of the cars being mentioned above (458, 991.2 gt3, r35)
the thing is lap times don't tell you what a car feels like. I had fbo r35 and a toyota 86 at the same time. the 86 just felt better to drive and you could chuck it into corners or do a quick left/right on a chicane way easier. there is just less mass to move. the r35 is no doubt faster especially on actual tracks that are wide and not tight and twisty like a back road. anyway i dont mind weight. as long as you get something for it. the g87 m2 has less rear head room and leg room than the f80 m3 and new rs3. the rs3 is lighter and also gives you awd. f80 m3 is lighter than both

It really is a case that the G87 M2 isn’t not going to get any smaller or lighter on the CLAR platform without significant increase in price to close to that of the M4 to replace steel panels with lighter weight materials. The M2 wouldn’t exist on a unique platform at an economic price for its low volume, the only alternative would be on the FWD biased UKL2 platform. If you take a look at similar M-cars (with a Porsche 718 GT4 and Caterham R400 that I own for comparison), looking at the relative size based on comparable nominal volume the car occupies (length x width x height), you can divide that volume into weight to get the kg/m^3 where lower is better. The M2 is close to the GT4. Both M2 and Z4 on the CLAR platform are not as good as the G8x M3 and M4 due to the smaller size, comparable platform and mechanical systems weight. Overall though no BMW M-car of this millennium is light weight for track use, they all are grouped together, the Caterham stats show how far away a light weight car can be. Model - length x width (no mirrors) x height, (volume}, DIN weight, (kg / m^3): E39 M5 - 4.783m x 1.801m x 1.412m, (12.163m^3), 1795kg, (148) G29 Z4 M40i - 4.324m x 1.864m x 1.304m, (10.510m^3) 1535kg (146) E46 M3 - 4.490m x 1.780m x 1.370m (10.949m^3) 1570kg (143) G87 M2 - 4.580m x 1.887m x 1.403m (12.125m^3) 1725kg (142) 718 Cayman GT4 - 4.456m x 1.801m x 1.267m (10.168m^3) 1420kg (140) G82 M4 - 4.794m x 1.887m x 1.393m (12.602m^3) 1700kg (135) F87 M2 Comp - 4.468m x 1.854m x 1.410m (11.678m^3) 1550kg (133) E82 1M - 4.380m x 1.803m x 1.429m (11.285m^3) 1495kg (132) G80 M3 - 4.794m x 1.903m x 1.433m (13.073m^3) 1705kg (130) Caterham R400 - 3.100m x 1.575m x 1.115m (5.444m^3) 545kg (100) |

I was also surprised to see it was that light. Awd - 4 doors and weights as much as my OGm2. That is interesting.

The comparable BMW model would be an M235i Gran Coupe on the UKL2 FWD/AWD platform with a tune to the level of the AMG A45. It is a similar weight to the AMG and RS FWD biased AWD platforms.

The question is: in what order are you choosing your content? I'm going JoeAchilles, ThrottleHouse, MattWatson, BMWBLOG, TheSmokingTire, SavageGeese, and then print media (C&D, R&T, etc).
