I like the G87 M2 just hate how heavy it is.

i also owned a 135is before the 1M. They were different driving experiences.

The F87 never made the E82 1M feel mild, the 1M was a much more visceral and raw driving experience. The F87 was good to drive but felt too modern and refined for my tastes. Also the styling of the F87 wasn’t as aggressive as the chiseled madness of the 1M.

I do agree with you though that they had to move along this concept. We should embrace BMW doing that, instead of hating on the changes.

For someone who didn’t get a 1M, the F87 M2 was a great choice. For someone who didn’t get an F87 M2, the G87 M2 is a great choice! P

Love the use of "pontification." That will surely explode the heads of some of the forum members who haven't moved beyond iPhone English. They're just not there yet with their grammar.

Good example with the R8. The F87 now looks mild and girly next to the G87. The one thing I really like about the G87 is the profile.

And this is the base M2. Its only going to get better...unless they ditch the manual.

BMW styling has been tough for me to like at first glance, but I came around on the g80 so I assume you are right about the g87.

Probably just need more time seeing it to appreciate it.

I agree that it looks better from the top. Hard to argue with that

Btw what’s up with that spoiler gap to the rear of the trunk lid - is that intentional

Why couldn’t M create a M2 that looked muscular but not like a Lego/Gandam had a baby together. Looking good and being muscular are two distinct elements. M2 is muscular but that doesn’t automatically get it’s a good looking car. Sloth in goonies was muscular but ugly! I had mine ordered in black to hide its ugly but utimately canceled it. People say this is a homage to the original m3 but I also think they botched it. Hyundai is creating some old school designs that look very well intregrated like the ionic 5 or vision 74 concept. Maybe because they have the old M boss there?

most things are being overstyled now for the 'gram. its been happening with supercars too.

the murcielago and 458 were clean sexy/sleek designs.

Then the aventador svj and F8 tributo (which is basically built on the same 458 chassis) looked like a body kit factory blew up around them. vents/openings everywhere. the 458 has intakes too, but they are integrated into the back window and under the car.

Responding solely to the title, no specific comments or post.

Anyone arguing about the looks solely is ignoring the important stuff, and it almost seems as if on purpose. What's important is the performance, the looks are subjective. Besides the weight, everything else that is an objective factor is a home run. The weight is unfortunate but unavoidable at this price point.

Some of us were right. Respect to those that are mature enough to be open minded when seeing it (and driving it if possible). Anyone trashing based solely on what they see in photos needs to go see it, hear it start up and ask a CA to take you around the parking lot if they won't let you drive it. If you still don't like it be happy with your decision and move on instead of being salty that bmw didn't build a car specifically for you. Unfortunately the car is for the masses. If you are going to be salty that bmw didn't make a car specifically for you, go write them a strongly worded letter instead of insisting your opinion is fact while anyone else's opinion is false.

The GT won't be competitive with the G87 on any axis except straight line 0-60. The Dark Horse is getting a lot of hype, looking forward to seeing real street numbers. Mustangs are also not luxurious at all (and downpriced accordingly of course), I would not cross-shop M cars with Mustangs.

Also worth nothing the DH weighs 3862 lbs. Let the flame wars commence lol.

IMO the G87 is not competing with 2 seaters. Totally different performance segment. If you don't need practicality (4 seats, trunk), there are absolutely better cars for money. I'd lean towards the Supra myself.

Unfortunately, BMW doesn't make a pure 2 seater that can track (ignoring Supra). The M2 is the closest you can get, but it is a square peg in a round hole.

I own a G42 and everyone said that car was ugly when it came out. I bought it without seeing it in person and it has turned out to be an amazing great looking car.

I saw the G87 M2 at my local dealer in ZB yesterday. It is my opinion that if you like the G42 you will love the G87 M2 and if you hate the G42 you will hate the G87.

It’s ugly. If you need to write a 10 paragraph post about standing at a certain angle at a certain height and the car is a certain color and the lci will fix stuff on it to make it look better that just means the car is ugly. Goofy headlights and taillights too far apart looking like the car has F.A.S.

LOL, putting cars aside, this is so much BS. Take an art appreciation class, learn how wrong you are. Entire books have been written about Birth of Venus, the Arc de Triomphe, etc. Entire CAREERS have been spent deconstructing the best art, and the nature of beauty.

It's OK to say "I don't like it, it's not for me." You can stop there, it's OK! I know this the Internet, but really, all you have to say is that you don't like it. When you try to make up "facts" to prove beauty or lack of it, it's embarrassing.

Here, I'll show you how it's done:

1. I actually quite like the F87's looks, more than than the G87.
2. But I do still like the G87 quite a bit.
3. BUT, I like the F10 M5 best of all BMWs. Weird choice? So what, I like what I like. I don't need to justify it, or tell others they are wrong.

The thing about mustangs is everybody and their mom has one. I see so many GT’s it’s boring. Even modded they all look and sound the same. It’s like all Mustang enthusiasts do the exact same mods. There is nothing special about a GT at all. GT350 , Mach1 and GT500 much more appealing but your run of the mill GT is too common not to mention the built quality sucks. Those interiors are garbage.

Not to pull back from too far in the thread but I thought 'Gundam' when I first saw it too and that's kind of why I like it.

Even the screen interior feeds into it; I'm hoping it feels like loading up in a futuristic Gundam cockpit.

I get this is a BMW enthusiast forum but I really like the 90s JDM car vibes this gives off with the practicality and being a beast performer.

The 'JDM'ness brought me in from looking at the Supra / CTR / RS3.

To be honest, I did not like the joined kidney grills at all when the M2C came out. It looked like a butterfly.

It started to not bother me when I drove the M2C on the track and found it compelling and fun. This is an instance where a emotional experience influences subjective beauty. The experience makes the aesthetic beautiful because we associate a positive feeling to it. Again, eye of the beholder.

OMG, how dare you have an opinion that has evolved with time and experience and one that is, perhaps, more nuanced than I LOVE IT or I HATE IT. Perish that thought!
