100% agree. Is there a more grassroots comparison than cross shopping? (I’m 718/c8/m2)

Same...C8 was really appealing to me also but I need a car to drive in the winter (not necessarily in the snow) and I feel I would look like a moron driving a C8 when it is 20 degrees outside. I think an M2 or Cayman would suit my needs better.

Yeah, unfortunately there’s a stereotype that goes with the Corvette that goes far deeper than winter weather

Exactly my list. As a previous C7 owner and with an Camaro SS 1LE to trade, the C8 was at the top of the list at first. But the shenanigans with markups and the like soured that idea.

That left the 718-GTS and the M2 on my list. And to be fair, it was an easy decision. The occasional use of the rear seats, much better tech with iD8 and the ~$30K price delta sealed the deal.

I love the GTS. But it feels roughly the same as a 15 year old Cayman R. It's almost like it is frozen in time.

The G87 is a quantum leap in technology and capability from a 15 year old 2 door BMW.

I test drove a used M2 a few months ago and although it was fast, it felt too nice. Today I drove a new 430 vert loaner and it also felt too nice. The best car I’ve test driven this past year was the Emira but it’s too much of a mechanical shitshow to drive across the country. The c8 and 718 felt less nice than the M2 but not as involved as the Emira. I’ll decide once and for all when I see the ‘25 colors. I think each car I’m considering would do a great job and make me happy (and they’d all get snow tires)

where do you live where you see GT3s daily? Because i'd love to move there. even if you count 991s and 992s you are talking barely 20k worldwide. I doubt you are seeing such a high concentration of GT3s. More importantly you don't need 300k for one as you can get them closer to 200-250 for a 992 and under 200k for a 991.

Newport Beach. You’re more than welcome to come join, it’s quite a sight to see. Saw another one today actually, black on black.

A few do. Rolex typically a good a bet if you get one at retail. AP too. One needs to choose wisely tho if buying a watch for investment purposes.

The M2 is the closest I’ve come to an E92 M3 in feel. It’s BMW reaching back to a car that is more connected to a driver that enjoys driving. I think I would have appreciated the 718 more if I drove one with a 6spd.

C8 cross country would be a white knuckle experience, check the vette forum for DCT issues, reliability is problematic. The M2 mechanically seems very solid with a proven drivetrain.

Every car has compromises, sounds like the Cayman’s compromises are ones you are willing and able to live with.

The G87 is a quantum leap in technology and capability from a 15 year old 2 door BMW.
This is a really interesting perspective, the "frozen in time" element specifically - I agree, between the 987, 981, and 982, you can really see the Porsche methodology of progression / evolution, rather than revolution.

I think the next version of the 718 (or whatever they end up calling it) will also be a quantum leap ahead in tech, but is also losing the engine completely for a full electric setup. I wish they'd decided to do something hybrid for the next generation, which would had given them a lot of options on how far they could take the next mid-engine platform.

The G87 felt like it was at least 10 years newer than the OG M2 we have in the garage when we got to sit in it - I am sure I would get used to that, but it's a change for sure.

I personally wouldn’t consider a Cayman in any form over an M2; I prefer the 911 silhouette. I like the GT4 and RS versions a lot (…and they are fantastic cars), but it’s purely an aesthetic thing for me. I wouldn’t want to own one. It would be the ///M2 all day.

Honestly, neither. If somebody gave me a GT4 RS or M2, I would turn around and sell the car and buy a GT3.
