For me that experience adds drama and engagement to every drive, even just getting groceries or going to the gym.

I am willing to sacrifice performance (and frankly AWD utility) for that and I recognize it is silly emotional decision. Some times the heart wants what the heart wants and to hell with your brain (or wallet).
Couldn't agreed more, for speed my other car Tesla Model S Plaid beat almost anything on street but I don't feel connect, slamming right foot on the pedal and left your soul behind even a 10 years old can do it if their leg long enough, manual ftw for G87

The AT’s 8 gears give you a better chance of being in the proper gear coming out of a corner.

I loved the exhaust note from my M4CX as it railed through the 8 gears.

My M4CX was an incredible track car with the AT.

My G87 M2 will be an AT.
But but...but..........your not 'connected' to the car LOL

That phrase is just hilarious. As if the manual mode does not give you a touch of additional control or input. Connected to the car? I guess we ENTHUSIASTS who will or have been driving auto's just let the car drive itself!

My 17 DCT M2 was superb and showed me manuals were no longer required for an 'enthusiast'. Auto or DCT systems are also a choice for enthusiasts!!!!!!!!!!

BMS clutch stop works wonders for the G87 clutch btw, absolutely no issues dailying my 6MT. Without the clutch stop, pedal has a long travel that gives the kink at the top end as Doug Demuro was mentioning in his review.

Personally I would have probably paid a price premium for the 6MT over the 8AT if that was the pricing structure here as it is in Europe. It makes every drive an occasion for me...

manual vs auto is like chess vs checkers. one requires more thought, planning, and skill to succeed. and therefore can be more rewarding. i have a manual for the weekend and dct for daily driving. i tried to like the zf8 in two different bmws but its just painfully slow to use in manual mode, many reviewers have mentioned this as well. great around town if you like to just leave your car in 'D'... but i never drive like that.

Slow in manual mode? I think you still have to be in the right RPM to paddle shift the gear. It's same as MT.

the shift speed is too slow when asking for downshifts driving around town. its very vague as well, you dont feel the shift at all. like most torque converters it sort of 'blends' the gears together. with a dct you feel the cog swap when you hit the paddle.

porsche, mclaren, ferrari continue to use dct in the sports cars. i've owned or driven most of them. its only bmw that dumped dct for the torque converter. i suspect thats partly due to cost of developing a new m-dct box to handle awd and increased torque, and partly due to many customers wanting a smoother daily driver in stop and go traffic.

Yes, every one of those brands are twice as expensive (or more) as BMW. DCT is probably not cost-viable if BMW wants to keep most of its performance cars below $90K.

I just can't take Joe Achilles serious as a reviewer. I dont know if he's afraid of losing the good graces of manufacturers but he basically never has any criticism unless there is some glaring issue. Maybe he's just that easy going though

I do enjoy his other videos, the ones about his personal cars, but his reviews should be taken with a huge grain of salt IMO

I've watched a lot of Joe, and I've seen him be critical plenty of times where someone else wouldn't be. I think he's pretty fair.

Overall Joe is generally more positive than most reviewers of BMWs but he has definitely been critical of them at times.

Love joe. It’s a 75k car with a nice interior and a pedigree engine. What’s to complain about?

Everyday Driver's Test Drive sub channel review. Seems on second thought, they really like it. It seems to be the vibe I'm getting from most reviewers. They tend to like it more the more time they spend with it. I'm already sold on the car, so I don't need the validation. But it does give me more confidence in the purchase.

Here's where I've landed on this car, now that I have owned one for a while. If someone is still on the fence now, then just get it. Let me explain.

All the "problems" with the G87 are super obvious, GAG REFLEX kind of things. The styling, the colors, the weight, the numb steering, ID8. If you don't like these things, you already know it. And that's OK, don't buy it.

If those aren't things that bother you, then there's no other major "gotchas" waiting for you. The rest of the experience is great. The S58 is eager, steering is precise, handling is a joy, braking is great, interior is very nice. It is capable and enjoyable to drive.

You are very unlikely to find a thing where you think "had I known about this I wouldn't have bought it*."

The obvious caveat: This assuming you have been exposed to BMW ID7 or ID8, EPAS, turbochargers, RWD, etc. If the only thing you've ever driven are Caterhams or Priuses, maybe take a test drive first.

* With the exception of Digital Key on MT, perhaps. What a mess.
