Yes, every one of those brands are twice as expensive (or more) as BMW. DCT is probably not cost-viable if BMW wants to keep most of its performance cars below $90K.

He said that he promised to not roast the tires, yes.

I just can't take Joe Achilles serious as a reviewer. I dont know if he's afraid of losing the good graces of manufacturers but he basically never has any criticism unless there is some glaring issue. Maybe he's just that easy going though

I do enjoy his other videos, the ones about his personal cars, but his reviews should be taken with a huge grain of salt IMO

I've watched a lot of Joe, and I've seen him be critical plenty of times where someone else wouldn't be. I think he's pretty fair.

Overall Joe is generally more positive than most reviewers of BMWs but he has definitely been critical of them at times.

Love joe. It’s a 75k car with a nice interior and a pedigree engine. What’s to complain about?

Everyday Driver's Test Drive sub channel review. Seems on second thought, they really like it. It seems to be the vibe I'm getting from most reviewers. They tend to like it more the more time they spend with it. I'm already sold on the car, so I don't need the validation. But it does give me more confidence in the purchase.

Here's where I've landed on this car, now that I have owned one for a while. If someone is still on the fence now, then just get it. Let me explain.

All the "problems" with the G87 are super obvious, GAG REFLEX kind of things. The styling, the colors, the weight, the numb steering, ID8. If you don't like these things, you already know it. And that's OK, don't buy it.

If those aren't things that bother you, then there's no other major "gotchas" waiting for you. The rest of the experience is great. The S58 is eager, steering is precise, handling is a joy, braking is great, interior is very nice. It is capable and enjoyable to drive.

You are very unlikely to find a thing where you think "had I known about this I wouldn't have bought it*."

The obvious caveat: This assuming you have been exposed to BMW ID7 or ID8, EPAS, turbochargers, RWD, etc. If the only thing you've ever driven are Caterhams or Priuses, maybe take a test drive first.

* With the exception of Digital Key on MT, perhaps. What a mess.

I do think it’s goofy how much time some of the reviewers spend on looks. I feel it’s like 1/2 the video on something subjective.

Thanks for this! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this guys videos before, but he seems pretty sharp and not a fan boy that is kissing BMWs ass.

Was waiting for this from Engineering Explained….

He was a bit lazy on this one as it relates to the weight. His channel was the best hope to explain the standard weights being so similar.

It is so easy Jason:

1 - M4 standard carbon roof vs M2 steel/moonroof = 48lbs

2 - M4 forge wheels vs M2 cast wheels = ~ 22 lbs

3 - M4 Li-Ion battery vs M2 AGM/LeadAcid = ~30lbs.

That is 100lbs right there, which is what a 4” wheelbase chop should yield.

That is there to save money and goes into the lower pricing of the M2 that he loved.

Just engineering, Jason.
