SwnSng,
Fantastic color, light and composition, BUT the water is going to run out of your ocean.

hehe, shows how much I take landscape shots! I really want to get into landscape photography though, but i'm not able to give the time and dedication it needs.

Need to remember to level the horizon, always forget that Thanks!

Actually, I like it that way.
If that warm water runs North, it will bring all sorts of goodies to us in Cal.

Well, you've got a good eye for landscape, composition and color. Congrats on getting rich colors without resorting to some distorted tone painted HDR-look.

Leveling the horizon is a step you're ready to take. My cameras all have the grid-lines turned on in the viewfinder and then I turn on grid-lines as I do my Raw conversion and PP.

Overdone "HDR tone mapped" images is like scratching a chalk board but for my eyes. HDR has it purposes and I think the word has taken on a new definition which I described in the sentence before instead of being a way to expose darker areas in the frame.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I plan to take as much landscape shots on my family trip to Kauai in late May than any other. Going to borrow some glass from a friend so very much looking forward to that.

Kalalau valley, Waimea canyon and the Hanalei pier. Your going to need that 16-35. The base of Wailua falls is a good view but probably very slippery and muddy. Wear shorts if you want to cross the river but it is fast moving water. (I declined that one) or use a dry bag.

I actually do HDR occasionally, but only to add DR to get closer to what the eye perceives.

Borrow a wide angle that give you at least a 24mm perspective on your camera (I don't know which body you have). Usually the ocean waves will prevent you from doing a stitched panorama, unless you're up high:

Does the 5D MkIII allow you to turn on grid lines in the VF like the 7D? I miss my grid lines on the 6D. And good luck trying to find an Eg-D focus screen.

Yes, it does.

I may still have an unused focus screen for my 5D2 that was never installed. If it'll fit, I'll sell it for 15-bucks, including shipping.

Stunning Panoramic, thanks for the advice and I will definitely try to borrow something at least as wide as 24mm. I shoot with a 5d Mkiii and sometimes my Rebel t2i.

I want to buy a landscape lens but been dishing out a lot of money in 2012 and this year with a new house, car, camera & lense that I need to put on the brakes a bit. Also owe good ole Uncle Sam a month's salary for 2012.

Perhaps Xmas of this year I can loosen the belt again

The 24-105mm f/4L IS is a great "landscape lens" and has a bunch of other uses. With Digital Lens Optimization, you really don't need a specialized lens for landscape.

Sparky the Wonder Dog

Took a shot of the neighbor's dog while I was out shooting buzzards today. This little guy will fearlessly wade into a pack of raccoons and chase them all away, even though they could easily kill and eat him.

Bunch of great shots here today! Hurray for the weekend, even though we are getting screwed out of an hour (spring forward).

I will post this shot on the right thread tonight.

Here is a waterfall shot with plenty of flow, from two years ago. Everybody has this shot if they have been to Yosemite, but I still have to take one every time I go. Tunnel view.

^^^Nice shot, Ed. I've never seen that much water and mist at the falls.

Thanks! Yes 2011 was a great year for the falls...The day I left the valley I stopped at hetch hetchy reservoir and it was crazy full and the falls there as well as the spillways were going full force. I shot some great video with my 5D that day.
