Yeah i know, my father is one of those people, im pretty much following in the footsteps and taking over the business but i had every opportunity to make something else out of myself like my brother the doctor, but i want to have as much fun with my life before i die, not look back and say i was in school for 10 years reading books...

LOL. Well, as much as I like you Scott, I don't entirely agree with your old-man wisdom. I don't know how old ZGirl is, but it sounds like she is old enough to be more mature and focused about dating. IMO she should do that and not just hope life works itself out.

I can't tell you how many girls I know and knew that continued to just keep going out to bars and having random hook ups well into their late 20s, then when they turn 30 they complain that they have no prospects and can't find the right guy.

Not to be too much of a downer or anything.

EDIT - I should add - I don't mean to suggest ZGirl gets around.

I'm just saying ZGirl shouldn't waste time with someone if it isn't going anywhere, no matter how great a guy he is. You're in NYC, and the harsh reality is that there's tons of others as good or better than he is. You have the luxury of being able to be selective.

Im 24... I have no desire to be bar hopping or clubbing my 20s away. Im having fun but im definitely ready if the right guy comes along... why pass him along? for what? ONS? No thanks. I need more. Further, when im 30... whats going to be the pool to choose from? Divorcees with 2-3 kids... No thanks.

yeah, i see your logic...and it is different, esp. coming from us married guys...but I have friends that are at that stage and I think it is just important for people to be happy...and that's all...i wish all my friends would 'find someone' but some seem to be serial daters for life...

You are lucky to be thinking more clearly than probably 95% of the women your age in NYC. A few years down the road, you will be surprised how fast it went, and you will have friends who wonder how you got so lucky to get the life you want while they still seem to be searching for the same.

Im 25 and im still doing the bar hoppin, hookin up thing and i still dont see anything wrong with it... then again i live in L.A. where girls are all messed up so its really hard to find a good one, i would settle if i found the right kind of girl but Ms. right now will do just fine for the moment.

More harsh reality: it is different for a guy. To a point. Once you get to be 35+, people start wondering if there's something wrong. And even if you did settle down and have kids at 35 or 40, you'd be way older than every other parent at the PTA meetings, and you could never coach Little League because of your "trick knee."

Thats what sucks... im not ready for kids but i want like 4 or 5 and my career so it wont work unless i start soon and its not going to happen so its kind of something one has to think very hard about because time does fly
