A separate M2 Competition model is in the plans.
It is not coming at the same time as M2 base.
My estimate of the probability of M2 Comp trailing M2 base by a year or more - 95%.

More info.
As with any leaked info, it's important to take these claims with a hefty pinch of salt..

Unless it's officially stated on some documentation or someone with verifiable credentials confirms it as fact, I say it could go either way.
Check out the EPA chart in the future model thread. The "M2 Coupe" designation seems quite legit.

I saw it, it's regurgitating the same unverifiable information you had previously posted with nothing to back it up.

Honestly, I have absolutely nothing against the source and have no reason to doubt him but the fact is there isn't anything to back those claims other than speculation. Maybe just a morsel of actually evidence would change my tune.

It's not that seriously to me but I have a suspicion that M2 and M2 Competition will follow the same formula as the M4 & M4C where they will both be released concurrently, where the M2 base will be manual only and the M2C be offered as an automatic, with an onslaught of carbon fiber bits and that silly wing.
I feel like the chart does support his statement so it's not exactly baseless.

But I absolutely hope you're right. Well, not completely. I want to see a comp manual but I guess only time will tell.
Data aside, I'm positive the Competition will be automatic only but have a slight bump in power over the base M2. They claimed that the manual version can't handle any more power on the G8X.

That's how they will help differentiate it and justify the increase in MSRP over the base model.

Think the G8X formula, rinse and repeat, just shrunk down to a smaller package, without an AWD option (officially confirmed by the M CEO).

Apparently, iDrive 8 has all available movie and music APPs natively built into the interface (HBO Max, Showtime, YouTube, ect), with its own independent 5G wireless connection.

I don't care how it looks, efficiency wise, I'm completely sold! 😃

I would not be surprised if they de-code that for the U.S. market as they have in the past. Typically one can code video playback to work via BimmerCode.

I imagine it's probably speed-locked in most markets, where once the vehicle is traveling over 10MPH, it disables the video potion.

I'm ok with that because playing a video while driving attracts too much unwanted attention but the ability of having endless entertainment options, while waiting in the car, without tying up my phone or having to bring alone a tablet, works for me.

I want the full fat engine (power) with a manual transmission. Since both the M2 base and comp will have less power than the M3/4, it is possible the M2C will have the same power as the M4 base, as it happened in the F8x generation, and still be available with a manual.

Plus HUD and carbon buckets but I doubt these will be only available on the Comp model so I should be ok.

If these options will be available in the M2 Comp, I will buy one and build a wild streetable track car. If not, I will either build up my F80 (although it’s too “rare” and too pretty for that) or just spend in the next bracket and get a GT4.

The M3/4 base models are rated at 473hp with MT. Since the M2 will be detuned I see no reason why the Competition model wouldn't come with MT, unless of course it has more power than the base M3/4. We still don't know for certain if the 455hp rating in the future models thread is for the base model or Competition. All we can do is speculate for now.

Could be a better looking wheel, exhaust, the power bump… and yes the good looking black badge.

Not an end all for me, just preference.

Hmm, now im just confused as to what to do lol. Im guessing that even though the comp model may be able to handle manual, bmw won't offer it on the comp. Would be nice to know for sure though but I guess we'll have to wait

Yeah, I don't know either. I think the limiting factor is the torque. If you look at the M3/4C models they have 479 lb-ft. Theoretically they could give the M2C 479 lb-ft of torque, but limit the hp so it doesn't step on its big brothers toes. They did that with the F87, it had the same torque, but less hp. If they go that route than yes, I think it'll only come with a slushbox.

The Competition Model mantra is to deliver more power and performance. That alone should tell you that you’re not getting a manual with the Comp.

Hell, they’ve been ripping manuals out of comps and regular ol’ “performance package” models for awhile now.

If they did surprise us with a manual option in a souped up M2 I’d bet it’d come via some special edition.

MPP wheel & exhaust already teased. Any potential future power bump unknown. X3/4 M difference (from EPA app excerpt) doesn't seem huge??

I can totally see the M2C getting this variant of the S58. Less torque and hp than its M3/4 siblings, but more than the base model. Are you aware of any models that come with this engine and have a MT? I can't think of any of the top of my head.

M 50th anniversary edition? They would have to release it promptly though as the the anniversary is May 24, 2022. BMW intends to celebrate the anniversary for a full year, they have publicly stated such.

Yeah I'd be totally happy with that number.

Could mean a lower MSRP as well.

Maybe if we are lucky an updated MT that can handle more power will be a result of the M4 GT/H? Unless BMW plan to give it the same power as the base M4 which would be a bit strange.
