DP only beneficial if you are running flashtune.

No need to add downpipes to the Racechip, all their maps are optimized for the stock car. Its mostly about the octane you are using than your mods.

Woah- really? There's no HP gain from DP unless you tune? Even if it is catless or high-flow?

According to my tech and my service advisor, it depends.

When you bring the car in, no they can't. They can scan the key to get info about your car, but that won't show that you had the car on a piggyback.

They can read the ECU which is a more in depth scan. That looks for boost pressures above what the car was targeting. If they scan the car that way, there's nothing you can do. It's stored forever. As soon as your car sees boost above the target it's flagged, and once they read your ECU your car is flagged in their system forever as being tuned.

I got a commitment from my advisor and tech that they'd never do a full read of the ECU on my car.

I could be wrong, so please correct me if I am, but this is how I understand it.

The answer varies based on who you ask, but it does not really matter.

from 15 years of history on this forum and hundreds of thousands of tuned cars, here is what we know for sure.

1-dealerships go out of their way to deny warranty claims. Unless you're trying to get a stock part that you broke repaired for free, they don't really care.

2- Proven tunes are unlikely to damage stock parts, so this situation is rare.

the fact that warranties were not denied to hundreds of thousands of other users means it won't happen to you. However, nothing in life is entirely risk-free. If you find these odds worrying, it might be best to keep your car stock

How does the hardware speed compare between RaceChip and JB4? While the JB4 seems to look at more parameters, the actual processing isn’t as fast as the RaceChip?

You'd have to check with the manufacturers for the exact specs of their processors, but it won't make any different on the street if there are differences, its in the milliseconds.

Will do! was hoping some on the forum would know. As for the milliseconds, my guess is that is what makes the difference in how smooth and responsive it feels. Goal is to get to stock levels of smoothness.

Some of the JB4 maps have a very jagged response curves on the dyno, hence the Q.

I think you are listening to too many sales pitches from vendors.

"IF" there is a difference, it's not noticeable unless you are a professional driver. That said, if you are leaning more toward the Racechip, get the tune you are more comfortable with.
At the end of the day, either one will get the job done.

But Milliseconds are not a time difference you will feel. It's a great sales pitch and would help me score more sales, but I would be dishonest to convince you otherwise.

But to address your question, here are a few dynos of the JB4; the boost spool is exactly like stock, just higher RPM. I don't see any noticeable lag.

I've been running jB4 for about 3 months.l on my G87, no issues, then suddenly the car goes into limp mode...

New "Exhaust Cam Signal High" error today on Limp mode & Drive Train error (I've attached JB4, BimmerLink and ProTool error log dumps).

Dash error with Engine Light & Limp Mode, Warning: "Can continue Driving, Contact service, etc"
Read Codes through JB App received "164030: Exhaust Cam Signal High"
Deleted codes with engine off and Diagnostic mode and restarted engine
Limp mode and Error returned immediately
Ran additional error codes via ProTool and BimmerLink and they're giving an additional short circuit to positive exhaust cam, etc:
"146030: Exhaust camshaft sensor, signal: short circuit to B+" / "146030: Exhaust camshaft sensor, electrical: short circuit to positive"
"130F11: Exhaust camshaft sensor, signal: not plausible" / "130F11: Exhaust camshaft sensor, plausibility: pattern invalid"
Other errors are listed in the screenshots are just the standard high flow cat errors

Odd thing is I haven't touched the car for months since initial installation of the high flow cats and JB4 so these errors appear to come from the blue today for some reason.

Any help appreciated as always.

I've attached all of the various Error Reports and Code dumps, JB4 Software version etc


I contacted Terry and Burger a week ago, no resp, followed up yesterday, nothing so far...

Ill keep you updated.

Not sure which email you used but I would email their support team instead of terry directly. Im sure he is swamped with Black Friday orders and support.

Stupid question but did you try disconnecting the jb4 and then clearing the codes and seeing if the car runs without going into limp mode?

I did yes, the car is running perfectly with JB4 disconnected and codes cleared.. but I don't want to point the finger at jb4 without speaking to Terry and the guys at BMS to trouble shoot and really work out the root cause. I'm sure it's something simple, I've had nothing but good solid experience with JB4s for 6-7years on many BMWs so I'm confident this is the same.

I mean things break sometimes, you’re not pointing any fingers. If it runs fine without the piggyback then the issue is the piggyback. Could be something on the board came loose or one of the connectors has some corrosion. I’m sure Burger Motorsports will take care of it.

I know what you mean, it could of been a loose connection also although I checked and photographed every connection as I did the uninstall. I didn't notice any obviously connection issue.

I'd like some guidance from BMS on what to check and ideally I'd then reinstall the JB4 to see if the error returns. I just don't want to do that without speaking with BMS first.

Does the racechip retain your last setting when you start your car or do you have to select it every time? Also, do the M-mode settings select the racechip settings in addition to the app?
