Lol, I agree with you: it fits well in 70's-80's.
Even so, those old ones have a coherent and balanced design language. And supersportcars have a total engineering aproach, however, their design language is -again- very well composed and defined.

Unlike the m2 with large front air intakes and matching rectangular design elements in the rear bumper, which both serve to accentuate how mean and wide it is. I find the design of the g87 to also be well composed and defined.

Ultimately you can not like it, but pretending that there is some objective standard that it's missing is ridiculous.

When the color is the only thing you can praise, it’s simply not a good looking car.

BMW design has really done a crap job lately.

I was joking with the troller guy to be honest. The M4 is great, but I don't like really large coupes, think they look odd -- the M4 is longer than an X3. We each have our likes and dislikes.

I think the new G87 looks awesome! It has elements of the E30, E36, E46, E82 plus the drive train and engine from the G80/2... what is not to like?

I do feel that out of the new BMWs that have been released in the past 2 years, this design is the most conservative and BMW-like; smaller kidneys, straight shoulder line without the break, hofmeister kink, 3 box shape, bull dog stance, 6 speed manual and RWD.

If you compare this generation of cars to the ones that came before it - then yeah, I can see how the design language went from elegant to modern. But if you compare the M2 to its current generation of siblings, then it's a winner, no contest.

I feel the same way about the M4 . Just too stretched for my taste. Decided on the M3 for that reason alone, which I ultimatley ended up canceling.

Now on the wait list for G87

For me the E92 proporations was just perfect. Even the F82 was pretty darn good

Yup, they just made the M4 too long for my taste. The jump in size from the F82 to G82 was too much and now it looks like a boat with a pig snout. Fan of the F82 but now the G87 slots in perfectly for me in terms of looks and size

Well, you got me there. But judging by the comments, I’m not alone. I would guess people who find the catfish to be the most elegant of fishes also find this front end appealing.

I suppose BMW has lowered the bar so much with enormous grills that we all give a collective sigh of relief when that design element doesn’t appear on a newly redesigned car.

Grey & White both look great with the gold wheels, just needs a drop in ride height & some subtle mods.
Followed a BG M240 yesterday…nice colour.
G87 is definitely the best looking current BMW on offer imo.
Take a look at any new BMW beginning with an “i” if you want to see what ugly is🤮.

In the end it’s all about the sales. The design is so polarizing and therefore gutsy in the business point of view. The M2 was never a high volume model anyways. Every time I look at it with new posted photos I just couldn’t get myself to begin to find something I like design-wise. The image of an American brand SUV keeps popping into my head but I couldn’t put a pin on it. It’s got to be the shape of that new kidney.

The new Nissan Z has this big empty box in the middle but this one goes even one more by removing the line at the bottom. The bottom middle lip part is gone which is a contrast to the F87 where it was actually accentuated by having that break to each side fangs. Now it looks like two squarish jet engines were strapped on each side, going from front (inlet) to back (exhaust).

It’s great that some loves the look. We can’t all love the same thing. Not possible. For me it leaves me wanting to keep my F87 even more and myb spend a bit more modifying so that’s not good for my wallet.

Hmmm, American utility, frameless double grill.

It’s not…this, is it?

As far as I know, this is a free forum. Not just free in the sense of dollars, but free in the sense of "you are free to voice your opinion politely and inoffensively".

I also believe, and stand to be corrected on this, you are not in a position to command anyone to do anything.

Please enjoy participating in the forum without causing any raucous.

Thank you for your contribution

Here I am being told people hated the grille in the 4er including dominoM - also, everyone told me price of fuel would impact sales of larger SUVs - wrong on both accounts
Has nothing to do with demand, the 4 Series came out during covid, they are ramping up production. The X2 is down because they are releasing a new one in a few months.
