Alright so I just built a new 23 Audi RS3 pretty heavily optioned and it came out around $65.5k before delivery.

I'd be surprised if the new M2 comes in much higher than that given the RS3 is really the closest in competition/pricing IMO.

Lately I've been considering pulling my deposit and getting a GT350R. Somebody tell me I'm not crazy for thinking that

Isn't the engine in the GT350 pretty unreliable?

Depends but I think most issues were pertaining to the oil consumption and a lot of people not realizing their oil levels were too low etc.

Just nothing else like it out there IMO but I also really want an M2 lol but sucks that we don't know what pricing will be an if bmw will ruin the way it looks like they have w most other cars lately

My brother had a 2019 gt350. That car is unreal. The sound of it and low end torque will never make you want to drive any other car.

Just got on my local dealer list. He said I was #15 on the list right now. I wonder how many months will wait time be for them to get the first 15 allocations. Is there a larger launch drop, or is it still limited?

Yikes! You might want to look elsewhere to see if you can acquire a lower allocation spot.

Weird, the most a dealership had when I called around was 5 and they stopped taking people at 5

Oh wow. I assume that's a huge dealer. Look elsewhere.

A typical dealer gets 0-2 allocations a month.

At least you found a dealer giving you an honest ranking position. I still laugh when someone chimes in here and says "hey guys, just put my deposit down. I'm #1 on the list!".

I have worked with the dealer on 4 car purchases.. for my g80 m3 they told me the same thing.. but a lot of people didn't order cars in the end.. you figure people can't just wait forever for a car so there is usually some drop offs ahead of me..

Absolutely, the "list" is dynamic. Some buyers will bow out, new ones will come in behind them. From what I've seen it's usually around 25% turnover rate. Being in the 15th spot still means you have a long way to go before your slot comes up, even if 25% drop out.

I'll fill you in on a little tactic that I adopted years ago. I got fed up with dealers BS'n me, giving up my slot to a higher bidder, etc. So, I decided if that's the game they want to play so be it. I placed deposits with multiple dealers. Mind you, they are all refundable by law in my state should you decide to cancel the contract. Then I sat back and waited. Sure enough as expected I got played by some dealers, but eventually I secured an allocation that went into production, got the VIN, etc. Only then did I cancel all my other allocations and got my $$$ back. That's another reason why you'll see people drop out, because they found an allocation elsewhere.

As I always tell individuals when they are shopping around, if it is not written on a buyers order with the sales manager signature then your alleged allocation spot/number does not mean jack. Also have it stipulate the purchase price if available, or any of the following that apply; at MSRP, % off MSRP or % above invoice.

I have mine in writing thankfully. But I had also been asking about the upcoming M2 with this dealership since January/Feb so I knew I was pretty early to the party.

I ordered both as well, a 23 RS3 in Daytona Grey just around 65k as well. I put 1k down on an allocation for the G87 last Friday. Im puzzled on what to get. I hope it looks great so I can have my mind made up!

Talked to many dealers in my area and got on two separate lists with the 5th and 7th spot in writing. Had a couple others saying they wouldn't do anything until the car has officially been announced. A sales manager at my local dealer told me in person that in reality I need to lower my expectations as he believes it will never get to the 5th person and that any dealer would be lucky to get just one of these. He claims he has seen the car in person and suspects low production numbers and doubts they will sell anywhere near msrp. Should I be taking what he says with a grain of salt?

Sounds like he's giving you his gut feeling. Maybe that's based off the F87 since it had low production from the start. I don't believe that will be the case with the G87, but the supply chain might be a factor if it continues to be problematic when the car goes into production. I would still get on lists. Those that are persistent will get a car, the ones that half ass it will be waiting at the back on the line.

Total BS… he is either relatively new or just full of it. The only M cars BMW currently produces in low volume are the the CS and CSL variants. They pump everything else out as much as they can sans supply constraints.

Agreed, this guy is creating false hype. Looking cool does not equate to low production numbers. Homie be clownin'

I think the only way this will have low production is that oil is 200 and inflation is off the charts everywhere I would anticapate lower numbers then the F87 but maybe 5-10% lower unless the above factor has an effect. BMW is a busniess and the only way this car will make sence is in Scale.
