I thought MY2024 continues through July 2024 and MY2025 starts in August 2024.

For MY2024, the order guide became available on June 6, 2023.

That particular article states the reason it isn't an LCI is because there aren't significant changes to make it an LCI. The current understanding is that 2025 is just new colors, 20 more HP. Where an LCI usually means some tweaks to styling like new lights, new bumper styling, maybe some interior upgrades.

Correct, but they did mention in that most recent article that there will be a change to the front grille, and new wheel options have been mentioned in the past.

Meanwhile, an even more recent article on bmwblog discusses a second refresh for MY25 3 Series, which will only consist of “material and technological improvements without altering the headlights, taillights, or introducing a kidney grille redesign” yet they still use the term LCI here.

So I guess the question then becomes, how do we define an LCI and where do we draw the line on which updates qualify and which ones don’t?

It's killing me... I really want to know the new colors. Might hold off if there is something I really like or want. I've seen the rumored ones - voodoo blue (or whatever BMW will call it) is wicked looking. An orange or the right yellow (I am not a fan of the san paolo yellow) might make me wait.

It gets frustrating, right? Usually that BMW blog is pretty accurate. BMW leaks stuff every now & again. If I get a 2024 & they change the bumper design, I'll be HOT! That's my least favorite bit of the G87, followed by those squares on the rear bumper.

Maybe BMW is concerned folks won't order 2024s if they say too much about the 2025? They say it'll be a full LCI, maybe more folks wait. I know I would.

I did watch the BMWBlog video on youtube. He asked why no forged wheels on the M2. They said to keep the price down since the 2 series is the entry. Folks that want the forged wheels can get them later. I didn't like that answer, but I get it. My spec is over 70K with the HAS port installed. I never thought I'd buy a 70K car, ever.

That logic makes sense about keeping the changes quiet so they don’t upset the demand for the 2024, but the problem is most M2 buyers are enthusiasts and know that changes are coming anyway, at least in my area.

We only have one more 2024 M2 on the waitlist at my store, everyone else on the list has requested a 2025 now, so it looks like we’re going to get a couple of allocations that aren’t spoken for prior to the MY change.

If BMW NA rolls out a Center Employee discount on the 2024’s for Q2 then I might be tempted to jump on it rather than wait for the 2025, we’ll see in a couple weeks!

No one gets to "define" when it's an LCI. It's an LCI when BMW says its an LCI.

Sorry I didn’t mean we get to define it, but BMW does, so where do THEY draw the line? Seems inconsistent, but I suppose at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter, changes are changes despite how they’re labeled

It can be confusing looking at the MY25 thinking that's an LCI but it's not. LCI models have completely different type codes.

For example, look at the base M4 USA model codes. Notice the second type code below which is LCI differs in all but the second character.
53AZ - 3.01 / 353kW, Production period: 11/2020 - 02/2024
13HK - 3.01 / 353kW, Production period: from 03/2024
Below are the type codes for the USA G87. As you can see, aside from the first digit changing from 1 to 2 the rest of the type code remains the same for MY25 which is not what it would be if it were an LCI.
13DM - 3.01 / 338kW, Production period: from 12/2022
23DM - 3.01 / 353kW, Production period: from 08/2024
At a minimum LCI gets updated headlights, taillights and interior updates. Sometimes they get a power increase and a facelift to the exterior styling but not always. Look at the G82 M4 LCI to get an idea of what you can expect.

Aside from that both BMWBLOG and ynguldyn have both stated MY25 will not be an LCI. With all that in mind draw your own conclusion.

That's not what the article says. The article says "arrive at some point in 2026"

That means it will begin production either early 2026 or late 2025. A car that is "arriving" in 2026 does not begin its production that late.

SOP for MY24 was 08/23 and SOP for MY25 is 08/24. We can expect MY26 to be 08/25 which means it will hit showroom floors well before the end of 2025. If BMWBLOG is correct in their reporting the LCI won't be out until 2026 which is why I posted it "could be spring or fall of 2026. TBD".

Yes, allocations are typically distributed a month ahead of the “production month” which they are scheduled for.

As far as we know, MY25 production begins in August, therefore, I expect those August allocations to be distributed the first week of July or possibly the last week of June.

Indeed.

Placed my "order" 9 days ago and just emailed by sales rep to ensure that my allocation is for a 2025 model year car. I want the additional 20 SAE Net HP and all other enhancements that will accompany the model year change.

Seems like an extremely nice car for the money when smarty optioned.
