Have to return my i6 today because ATT just sent me a text telling me that my line that was upgraded on the 2 yr plan will go up from $15 to $40/month. I don't think so .

I recently changed from the original old school iphone plan to the mobile share plan. My bill went from $230 to $135. But I won't get iPhone at a discounted price. What you could do is use ATT next program. Basically pay $27 a month for 2 years. Basically financing a iPhone. That is what I'm planning to do. You can always pay it off fully anytime you like. Your line will stay $15/month + $27/month for finance. |

Anytime you buy a phone on contract you are technically financing it as the carrier is subsidizing a bug chunk of the actual price.

The downside is that they only offer it for 4 of the lines on your family share plan. I'm line number 5 on my plan, so I'm SOL and stuck in a contract with my Galaxy S5. I'm sure they will change it eventually, once they need to be more competitive with T-Mobile and Verizon.

Technically people who finance the iPhone pay much more than the people who gets the iPhone subsidize. We have to pay the full price $650+tax for the 6. While you only pay $199+tax.

I am on a family share plan, $150/mth for 20gb of data. each additional line is $15. When I upgraded my line with the 2 year contract my additional line charge went up to $40/mth. So after 2 years I would've ended up paying $299+tax , $25/mth for 24 mths. $899+tax. I switched mine to the Next program earlier today.

This shit happened to me. Such a pain because Apple can't return the phone and then sell it back to you because their system will say it has already been sold. I had to go to Att and get an unactivated sim so Apple could use the new sim number to sell me back my phone.

Went with the 6. 6+ just was too large for my daily usage. Totally cool though if I didn't have to use my iPad for work daily too. 6+ is the perfect size for a headunit retrofit

ATT can't control the cost of the iPhone, but they can control the cost of their services. By using ATT Next compared to a traditional 2 year contract you A) have no contract and can leave any time and B) are being rewarded with lower service costs for ATT not having to take the hit of subsidizing your phone. *Note: The table below is for an ATT 10GB shared family plan with 4 lines.

That's because you only get the $15 per month access charge if you BYOP or use the Next program. Regular 2 year contracts are $40 per month per line.

Don't be fooled, Next is a way to make money and they're charging you a huge premium to not sign the contract. Plus, I'm not sure, but I don't think you can keep your phone with Next. It's not like it's the greatest thing in the world, but I've stocked up a few iphones I can use as iPods and a couple Galaxy S2s that I can use long after I've moved on to other phones. I can also sell the phone unlocked for at least $100 or more after I've used it. Next is like leasing...not necessarily stupid, but you're paying more to do it. What you seem to be missing is there is a discount you get on your monthly service if you go with NEXT. Saving $10 per month over 2 years is significant. you have to run the numbers out for the length of the contract to find out which option ends up the cheapest.

And yes, as long as you make all the required payments, you get to keep the phone at the end.

The Next program saves you $25/month on each line on the 10GB shared plan. Each iPhone 6 "Access Charge" is $40/month per line if you get the phones for $199 under contract. With the Next program each iPhone 6 "Access Charge" is $15/month per line. Best bet is to do the Next program. Especially if you have multiple lines. Also if you purchase iPhone 6 on Next program before 9/30 you get $100 credit per phone. After 14 days you can just pay the phones off and own them out right. Or continue Next payments. What happens is people see the $199 price and think they are getting a deal. But really ATT is just charging more each month for the Access Charge. You pay for the phone either way you do it. For people that have shared plans 15gb or larger on ATT. ATT is doubling the data rates.
15gb to 50gb plans will now be 30gb to 100gb plans. Offer ends 10/31. http://www.cnet.com/news/at-t-double...-at-15gb-tier/ |
