Agree.

Like the 1M, its value will increase as you own it. Very rare for new cars these days.

GT4 is looking to be one of last non-turbo, pure analog driver's car. That will only increase its value.

I have two garage spaces - one for the wife's family SUV and one for me. I couldn't make this car my only car - there would be too many occasions where I'd have to arrange alternate transportation.
Brosef I am in the same boat as you. I live in DC and I can only have one assigned parking spot in my condo's underground garage. So that means I can only have 1 car really and I even have to pay extra per month for my parking spot. Therefore, I am wondering about the viability of a Cayman GT4 in a rough city like DC. I assume that DC is just as bad as Chicago is with the sheer number of insane potholes and bad wintery weather. I am barely getting by with my M5 and winter tires on these horrible streets. What makes the GT4 appealing though is the usability of it's performance on the street and overwhelming capability on a track. Like Chicago, DC has no mountains nearby for canyon driving and the closest open country is no less than 2 hours away for me, this makes enjoying a high horsepower car extremely difficult. The only other alternative is to go to the track, which a car like an M5, RS7, Panamera GTS, or Merc E63 is extremely not well suited for. There are a number of racetracks on the East Coast but none are really big power tracks like the Nurburgring where I can use a 700hp (modded) Sedan to it's full potential. This makes the GT4 even more appealing. It's almost 300lbs lighter than than a 991 GT3 and doesn't have as much horsepower a lot of the competition out there, which is great because on trafficky urban streets and highways and smaller racetracks of the East Coast, horsepower is simply not a usable consumer good. Can the GT4 be a daily driver, I think so, the suspension setup shouldn't be drastically different from the Cayman GTS as far as comfort goes but the biggest concern would be the manual only transmission. If anyone has ever owned a manual transmission as their daily driver and they have to commute in gridlock traffic with it everyday, well then you understand my point. The picture below is what I have to drive in every single weekday. I thank God for the ///M DCT and the fact is that I'm not getting younger either and I'm not so sure my knee could take the constant clutch movement in 5mph traffic. So as a daily driver and only owned car, the GT4 takes a lot of consideration. There's still no info on when production will start I think, but when the times comes, I am seriously going to consider pulling the trigger.
Great post.
I am in same boat. I love MT but driving in NY can get very frustrating at times.
Anyway, I will order the car on Saturday. I really don't care what people saying... To me this car is a pinnacle of sport car. I could never connect with my M3, but having owned Porsche in the past, I can tell you that there is something very special in the way it makes you feel and the connection you have with the car. I am not sure if I can express it correctly , but some of you will understand. Can't wait to get GT4!!!

Very, very nice. If I didn't need 4 seats this would be my daily. Perfect weight, power ,transmission and it's naturally aspirated. Now just build a small light and tight 4 seater with the same specs, please.

I've been hoping they would enter the m3/c63 segment. If they do...game over.

PDK+ in about 1 year I think.

In the EVO video, Andreas mentioned a possible PDK in the future.

This is not going to be an easy car to get a hold of for a while. I went to put a back up deposit at my local dealership who I've bought from and they wouldn't take it, this was in November.

Agreed currently in two waiting lists. Fourth at a high volume dealer and second at a low volume dealer and I don't feel too confident I will get one.

Guys on rennlist seem to be having no issues getting an allocation (at msrp too). Then again, as rennlist is a porsche enthusiast site, those members might have stronger relationships with their pcar dealer.

Personally, i don't think it'll be tough to get a gt4 below msrp a couple of months after your country of residence starts seeing deliveries of these cars

Now here is the question since both are raw track oriented 6MT cars around the same price range...a used 997 GT3 or the new Cayman GT4? Hmmmm decisions decisions. Obviously the 911 with it's rear mounted engine vs the cayman's better balanced mid engine layout has been debated many times and newer tech vs older tech, Metzger vs whatever the hell this new 3.8 is, blah blah blah. There is a used 997.2 GT3 for sale near me for $90K (has been in an accident unfortunately, that's why the price isn't above $100K) and a base Cayman GT4 would cost a little over $90K after taxes. Those are the two cars I would be most interested in as a second/track car beside my M3

It's awesome that Porsche made this. It' such a wonderful chassis, and with almost 400hp, it should be a dream to drive.

It does keep some very interesting company in that price range. The Z06 and the Viper namely. They're all 2 door, 2 seat cars, but couldn't be more different.
