And it's not like I'm even close to buying one either. I get heavy hints daily such as romantic notes next to my coffee cup that say things like "stop being a bitch, buy a fucking car."

Or the brochures since I haven't found a dealership of any brand from Finland. Or the occasional texts that say mean things like he will go buy a merc or a Citroen and once the fucker had invited my mom over to talk sense to me.

The only consistency is that when someone loses points in the algorithm they come here and complain that it's dumb, but when they gain points they celebrate

Not true! I've complained about the points consistently. I would look way cooler if I had less posts and points and since this is my whole social life, this shit matters!!

Agree. Most reputable Internet forums do not count anything in site related threads or off topic threads.

Much easier to goose rep points with BS off topic than to get 1 legitimate rep in actual BMW Sections.

Just post BS off topic and it’s like a broken ATM continually spitting out rep points.

No need to post quality content in main section if ego can be stroked off topic.

I appreciate that there is an indication of an individual’s contribution to this site and that folks like Mark are trying to make it better.

While I enjoy seeing the comparison of a user’s appreciations in standard deviations from the whole community, it would be neat to see a user’s individual “quality metric”. I understand quality is subjective since we all view such a thing in varying light, but it would be nice to see. Perhaps an individual’s post could be rated on a 1-5 gold-roundel scale. We have software for that…..

I just flipped through my reputation details. It looks like car related posts get 1 rep point and off topic get 1/2 point. I very rarely post in off topic so I only lost 4 points.

I'm also seeing what looks like a sliding scale of points as you get more for the same post. I have a post that started with +1 and then jumped to +1.5 after a certain number.

Today on Chrome on a PC i was at like 720. Now on my Mac running firefox im at 1040. magically found 320! i dont get the rep point thing. its been fluctuating like bitcoin. one minute im important and the next not so much.
