You are correct. And individual paint is a huge money maker for BMW.

It costs them almost nothing extra, but they charge $5 k more.

Mexico plant does not offer individual paint at the moment. Spoke with them this week out curiosity too since the new LCI 3 series is being produced there to confirm.

Hopefully that changes in the near future.

If the colors Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, Zandvoort Blue, Toronto Red remain the only ones and there are no individual colors...then that is quite little, isn't it?!

The BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, made in Leipzig, has offered individual colors for almost a year now. MSRP starts <$37K.

The expected starting M2 MSRP is almost twice that, and I find it hard to believe that if the San Luis Potosi plant has the capability (previously announced by BMW), that they would not introduce individual paint from the get-go, as the profit margin on each car would greatly increase. Other factors include: Last ICE car; last part of the M-division anniversary year; new model introduction, etc. Even the M240i got a new color (Thundernight Metallic) that looked sporty; not the color of a baby blanket.

I know it might be wishful thinking, but I have been looking forward to getting this sporty/playful car, but if the choice of colors is as stated and (personal opinion) boring, I might just have to go the Emira route.

(Personal note: I really appreciate the knowledgable and passionate contributors on this forum.)

Agreed…one thing is for sure…there will be options out there for people if the G87 is not for them.

I feel like they're going to throw a green in there. Maybe IOMG.

Also Alpine White will forever be an option.

Agreed 100%.

Alpine White will never not be available on a BMW model as it has significant racing heritage for the company whereas silver has racing heritage for Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.

Lol yeah you can always count on alpine white and black sapphire metallic. I've had 3 BSM cars over the years. I say I'll never do black again but I'm not closing the door on it since it will be the best way to mask the odd rear lights and rear diffuser.

I have always like white...looks clean very clean...simple and elegant. Throw in some black accent pieces...Tint, maybe black vinyl on the roof, smoked reflectors...you have a nice looking stormtrooper looking car.

BSM, Black Sapphire has not been around nearly as long as JB, Jet Black though.

I'm in the same boat. My Audi I just sold is black and told myself I wouldn't get another one, but it looks so damn good and menacing when it's clean.

BSM is also a beautiful black with its gray undertone under certain lighting.

True but jet black isn't really offered much as a standard optionanymore, which is a good thing. Shows way too many scratches which the metallic helps hide. I recently found out that the e46 M3 CSL was offered in black sapphire metallic. Didn't realize the color went back that far.

Having owned two black cars myself they do look very good when they are clean, but let’s be realistic that only last for about 10 to 15 minutes. I swore off black cars after my first one, but 13 years later I purchased another one because apparently I forgot how difficult they were to cosmetically maintain. After seven years of ownership with the second one it was my last and final black vehicle.

If I recall correctly black sapphire arrived around the time the E65/E66 launched.

A lot of individuals state that ceramic coatings now help to make it easier to own a black car. I do not know how much I believe that. My own experience with a professionally installed ceramic coating has left me feeling as though it is snake oil.

Light to medium grays are extremely easy to maintain. I am hoping that Skyscraper Grey is offered on the G87. I would skip individual paint for it.

I had my car ceramic coated and I am happy with it. The thing is, it does not prevent the car from getting dirty, a black car, regardless of being ceramic coated will show dirt.

If possible, I am going to go for one of these colors. I am liking the one on the left...

My thoughts on ceramic coatings form a different thread...

I keep it simple and use Turtle Wax's 'Flex Wax'. Don't let the name fool you, it's not really a wax, it's a sealant and it's amazingly versatile. After applying a base coat all you need to do to maintain it is every now and then just reapply a quick coat and it'll last forever. You can do it on a dry car, but what makes it awesome is you can apply it while the car is wet. You can spray while wet and wipe or spray and rinse to top it off. It's not prone to water spotting like ceramic coatings, its gloss levels are unreal, and it repeals water just as good as a ceramic. Best of all it's relatively inexpensive and the amount you get with each bottle will last you for years.
I've only ever owned one black car and while it was stunning when clean it would look mediocre after just one drive. The worst part however is if the car was dusty, and you got caught in a light drizzle of rain. The dust would clump all over the paint, looked like shit. Don't know where you read that ceramics will keep a black car looking clean, that's nonsense.

I hope for individual colors because I would love to go for "Kreide". I saw the color last year on a M3 during the M Drive Tour. Absolutely stunning.

All in all black looks nice but as mentioned before only 10 minutes after a wash 😅

For the amount spent, I am unimpressed. Never again, at least not via the shop used.

All three blues look great! I have a BMW Individual blue selected and have for well over a year. Given that I am allocation number one and individual paint will not be available right off the bat that puts me in a bind. I really do not want one of the standard colors, but I also do not want to give up my spot in order to acquire individual paint.

Kreide = Chalk (translated). Should be very similar to Porsche’s Chalk.
