Strut tower issue

So it definitely sounds like it involves the sheet metal where the strut attaches to the body. Very curious what the fix is for that and how "factory" it is when done.

we've had 1 vehicle released from the stop sale (a 330i), so maybe there is some progress being made

Thanks for sharing. Any details given if any work on either the tower or the strut assembly was done?

no visibility into what was done, just for that car the stop sale is gone

If I had to guess, I'd say a rather large recall is coming.

That's what I mean, yeah. I already got my G87, but that doesn't mean a nasty recall can't come out and hit me.

A recall that, at this moment, seems severe, impacts critical structural components, yet is vaguely defined.

Not my favorite thing. I really do hope this was a transient build problem and won't effect cars that didn't have a stop sale.

On the plus side, BMW has a pretty decent track record of making sure everyone is taken care of, during recalls.

I think the biggest issue is the backlog of cars everywhere, from SLP plant to dealerships and on top of that, the MY24 about to start (which I wouldn't be surprised to see it delayed).

Hopefully current production will be unaffected. I am not counting on it though.

Our first 24 is at 112 and I expect it to hit 150 in the next 7-10 days. It could happen sooner as that has often been the case lately with the Carbon Pkg builds pushed out.

My thoughts/concerns is if this is a model wide issue (and maybe multiple models...remember the Takata airbag recall?), they will have a backlog of MY23s and without the correct parts, what do they with MY24s...keep adding to the backlog or hold off till the fix is in place and can get the MY23s moving and out of the way.

This is exactly what they will do. BMW will not pause production. FYI, everything built at SLP is affected by this issue therefore it is a supplier problem.

Yup, am aware of that. Its not only a supplier problem but subsequently and ultimately a manufacturer and end use aka P1 problem.

I'm just not sure of the consequences. Assume I rack up 10K miles before I can get the recall serviced, because of backlog or whatever. What are the consequences?

Will there be additional long-term fatique to the front frame? Is there an increased chance of failure in the strut? Is there, in other words, risk that I need to manage?

This is a forever car for me, so I care about the long term. I feel underinformed right now.

I did. I asked what they did and they said it was a minor work order. Did not offer any more details.

I may be naive but I’m less concerned that there is a major structural problem if they are willing to deliver the cars to customers.

Every car has recalls. Our 21 F150 has probably had more than 10 so far.

Can you see any difference between the left and right top strut mounting structure?
