I'm confused about the wording around needing to be located in Kentucky. Seems as if they have some option to work around this, but then have an faq that you need to be in Kentucky.

For a free car I’ll gladly take a flight to Bowling Green.

When I bought my C6 the wife and I set it up to do the factory tour and pick it up there and drive home. A week or so later I was at the dealer And I was Looking over the final contract and I see charges for Delivery charge to my dealer in NY. I reminded the salesman that we’re doing the factory pickup and he said I know, we still have to charge for delivery, it was around $600 if I remember correctly. They also hit you up extra for the Bowling Green pick up. Double dipping at its worst. I told him to pass on the factory.

Chevrolet may end 2020 Corvette production after making about 2,700 units

https://www.autoblog.com/2020/05/07/...ction-limited/

Quote:
It could be one of the rarest 'Vettes in recent memory

The eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette deserves a do-over. Its market launch was marred by a United Auto Workers (UAW) strike that paralyzed General Motors for 40 days in the fall of 2019 and a pandemic that forced the global economy to grind to a halt. As a result, the 2020 model may be the rarest Corvette in recent memory.

2020 looked grim even before Chevrolet began building the new Corvette in Bowling Green, Kentucky, on February 3. In January, we reported the firm planned to cut 2020 production by about 20% to make up for the working days it lost during the strike, and to offset the time it spent tracking down internal issues with the car. Dealer allocations were slashed, though executives mostly wanted to prevent stores from building an inventory.

The mid-engined Corvette finally began rolling off the assembly line, we drove it (and loved it) and customers started taking delivery, but its launch derailed again when General Motors began shutting down its North American factories to fight the spread of the coronavirus. Bowling Green built its last Corvette on March 20, according to Consumer Guide, and there's no word yet on when it will re-open. It remains idle as of writing.

Kai Spandle, the Bowling Green plant manager, revealed in an earlier interview that approximately 2,700 examples of the 2020 Corvette were built between February 3 and March 20. That number could grow if Chevrolet resumes production in a timely manner, but it's not going to increase exponentially, which means the 2020 will become one of the rarest regular-production models in the Corvette's history.

For context, Chevrolet sold 10,261 units of the Corvette during the 1960 model year, 17,316 for the 1970 model year, and a whopping 40,614 in the 1980 model year. Sales for the 1990, 2000, and 2010 model years totaled 23,464, 33,682, and 12,194, respectively. And, 34,822 seventh-generation cars were made during the 2019 model year, including 2,953 ZR1 models powered by a 755-horsepower V8 engine.

General Motors is gradually reopening its North American factories, but it hasn't revealed when the mid-engined Corvette will again see the light that awaits at the end of the production line. Leaked documents that surfaced online in March — two days before the factory closed — confirmed the company has stopped taking orders for the 2020 model, and it will begin selling the 2021 model in late May, or about a month earlier than planned.

"Further information will be forthcoming from Chevrolet regarding the handling of sold 2020 model year [cars] that we will be unable to accept, and the creation of a replacement 2021 model year sold order," the company told its dealers. This suggests customers waiting for a 2020 Corvette may end up with a 2021 model instead.

General Motors previously announced production of the 2021 Corvette will start on September 1, a date which — in theory — gives the Bowling Green factory time to build additional 2020 models before it switches to the next model year. We don't know if that date is still accurate, or if it has been moved. Similarly, what's on the list of changes the 2021 model year will bring is anyone's guess at this point; all we know is there are several new Corvette variants in the pipeline. We've reached out to Chevrolet, and we'll update this story if we learn more.

While BG is closed now there is work going on in other GM plants making Corvette parts, even around the clock reputed workforce in advance of the eventual opening and the company is looking at later this month in some respect.

Here’s an option available for the new Corvette that’s sure to raise a raucous.

Love it except for the view from the back. I don't like the M2/series back end but could live with it, I could not live with the back end on the C8.

100% agree^^^

The entire C8 design is simply not alluring to me, something about it is just "off". It looks like it's a $70,000 American mid-engine car, and I guess for many, that's why they love it. I was in Carlyle, PA when they previewed the car for all the Corvette fans, and at least 50% of the Corvette fan club came away feeling the same. Something in the design got lost in translation.

Nevertheless, the rear is an utter complete deal breaker for me. I don't even think the aftermarket can save it.....though I've seen some amazing exhaust tip and rear valence kits that have transformed some cars, so I'm still holding out hope. Otherwise, maybe the Chevy refresh will spruce up the rear.

I like the rear, I hated the frontal view since it looks oddly bulky.

Said it before but the entire thing looks disjointed. F360 meets Camaro, just does not look right at all and I am a big fan of the C7 looks wise, think it's brilliant.

The rear "bumper" is too tall, the rear end wedges out too wide, the headlights and noise look very F360 and the transition from the middle to the rear looks awkward, like they are two different cars.

I am a vette fan but legit cannot warm to the look of the thing.

Have you seen one in person? Works better in person, looks weird in photos. I do think the wider fenders of the Z06 should help with the big butt though.

A little audio for your enjoyment. Long tubes let that 6.2 breathe even deeper and it roars nicely. Sounds great but no mention of power increase but long tubes and tune on C6’s usually net about 30 hp, I would expect similar gains.

Man...that sounds so nice!

Long Tubes are the first thing I usually do on any of my Corvettes. As you said...with a tune they are usually good for 30who and 30wtq....sometimes even more in the mid-range.

And I can tell you from experience they are a lot easier to install than headers on a BMW!

***Edit***...I just seen these are made in my hometown! I even know Anthony Messina. How crazy is that????

They sure do sound nice. I have LG Super Pros on mine and they sound similar but it’s difficult to compare sounds when not hearing it live. They’re the first thing I did as well, performance wise.
I never heard of them before and they’ll do well in the game I’m sure. Wish they had a pic or two in the story of them installed in the engine bay, bet it looks great.
Small world you knowing him, has he been in the aftermarket business for a while or a new venture?

I have LG Super Pros as well.

It has to be a new venture. I know him, and know of the other guys. Also Watson performance is probably tied in somehow on the "tuning" side as I go to the gym with the guy that started up that business a few years back...and he's friends with the whole group.

Before that, we had Hawks in Greenville. They are great, but not local.

I did most of my own tuning. But when Watson opened up with his dyno, it grew so quickly that it's now his career.

He can work magic on these cars.....also on other platforms. His business was built by word of mouth.

I will need to ask him about the new company. With the gym being closed, I haven't had a chance to talk with him.
