Llarry, while we are in the Loire Valley, let's not forget the amazing Château du Clos Lucé. While it's not on the grand scale of the amazing locations you posted, it was Da Vinci's home in his final years. It was fascinating touring this building and it's grounds and seeing replicas of some of his inventions.

Another French chateau dating to the 15th century, destroyed during the Revolution, and reconstructed in the 19th century: Chateau de la Bretesche, Missilac.

Very few castles or chateaux survived the various wars in France.

I'm sorry Llarry but your information is incorrect. I was there a few years ago. Burg Eltz is not as neatly finished as the image you shared. This is Burg Eltz. Also, Burg Eltz has some cool rain scuppers.

I agree but the castle in Llarry's post is not Burg Eltz. It more closely resembles Vianden Castle which is located near Luxembourg City. I'm not entirely sure if it is Vianden Castle though.

The rain scuppers are cool and additionally keep the evil spirits away in that neck of the woods

This is Neuschwanstein, it's made from a different stone.

We travelled four hours by train from Nuremburg to Fussen and then had to walk up a mountain to do a half hour tour of the place!

We did but my Wife really wanted to see it. My Son and I had no interest but sometimes you have to do these things.

Yep, half hour is all they give you.

The trip home was longer, took about six hours, the train tracks were blocked with snow!
