On my way back out I came across this sand flat area that was about 12 feet deep. I look below and there is a huge northern stingray just hovering away. I spent about 2 to 3 minutes shadowing him as he/she moved around the water. Just the stingray and me having a moment is something I will never forget.

My sons were really jealous that they weren't apart of it but a couple days later we got to swim with some other stingrays and experience that together. So basically saying that swimming with stingrays in pretty cool!
Sounds like you had a really nice experience. When I think of stingrays I think of Steve Irwin who was killed by one from a puncture to the heart. That was probably a rare occurrence.

Found this on the interweb:

"Stingrays generally aren't dangerous — in fact, they have a reputation for being gentle. They often burrow beneath the sand in the shallows and swim in the open water. Stingrays will usually only sting when disturbed or stepped on by unaware swimmers. Most of the time, you can avoid being stung by a stingray."

...because my BMW i3 passed its annual NY State DMV inspection. No surprise, since I hardly drive anywhere because WFH.....

If you keep your distance you will be fine. As this thing got closer to me I would back away too. On a Mexico trip many years ago a friend of mine got hit in the bottom of the foot by a stingray. He was walking along and stepped on it. They aren't creatures that are going to come after you but you threaten them then game on.

Also gotta love the low $10 fee, since it is only a safety inspection and not the full $21 if they had to do an emissions inspection as well.....

...because the getting-mightier Freightliner also passed its annual NY State DMV safety inspection today! Being a new vehicle to me, I challenged them to find any problems and they couldn't find a single thing wrong...other than *barely* fitting through the door to get into the repair bay.

Another $10 sticker, because commercial diesels are also exempt from the $21 emissions inspection.....

Disappointing, in a way. Now you no longer need a scantily-clad lady to "lean on" as your knees wobble to the bar. . .

Because I started on upgrading my car's bedroom (garage). Starting from nothing but studs and plywood so doing insulation, vapor barrier, drywall. Not too bad of progress for 4 hours of work with 1 helper. Will be finishing all the walls in the next couple weeks but the ceiling might have to wait until next year. Not sure if I will take on the ceiling or hire it out.

If you have Ethernet in the rest of the house, don't forgot to drop some in the garage. Having a workstation in the garage is convenient as hell.

Yep. All over it to ensure good internet connectivity in there. Also, will be doing a pretty sweet TV and speaker setup for watching the sports games in there.

Today is National Sandwich Day.

There are several deals out there to celebrate this day. One that I like, because I like Popeyes, is:

"Buy one Chicken Sandwich combo (classic or spicy) and get one Chicken Sandwich free in either classic or spicy through the chain's app or website."

I have two Apple Homepod Minis for speakers and a 24" monitor I recycled. Works awesome. I spend too much time in the garage now.

The beast that is rebuilding an ESXi host from scratch via VM's support portal is complete. I had no idea it wasn't my networking setup, but the actual HBA on the LUNs that was blocking my connection to the SAN where all the PD's VMs lived. I *MAY* be able to sleep tonight.

NOW, I may sign the PO for VM ELS training for 3 of us for a year . . .

Today is a good day because it just hit me: cooking at home is great. I really missed this without noticing I did

It's a nice feeling to have food in the fridge, nice to feel accomplished after you make food and you taste it, and even nicer to not have to pay at least $20 per meal. Sounds dumb maybe but it's something I forgot.

In the bigger scheme of things, today is also a good day because I'm also realizing I'm happy again. I'd been feeling pretty bad since last November after my breakup, even started therapy. About a month ago I realized I was putting myself through this for no reason, that everything was "back to normal". Ironically life has been pretty good ever since I stopped talking weekly about my ex and other problems. Not in a "oh it's whatever" way, but not having that constant reminder has allowed me to focus on myself and try to get over all that's going on instead of constantly having to think about how something makes me feel. Yes sometimes it feels bad but if you trip and fall you need to get up somehow. So much has also happened in the past year too, I'm 3 days away from the "anniversary" of one of the best decisions I've ever made. I still miss having a girlfriend, but that's wildly different than having her as a girlfriend.

tldr: I love you all, very grateful for the e-friendships I have with you guys, for where I'm at with life, and everything else in between.

note: this post may have been brought to you by sunday afternoon beers but points are still valid

I'm glad to hear that things are coming around for you. Always remember that the single most important person in your life is you. You have to be happy with yourself before you can hope to be happy with anyone else.
