BMW uses lightweight/expensive materials on the more expensive models (M3/M4) but not on the downmarket stuff. E.g. the F82 had a carbonfiber roof as standard, but the F87 did not. |

Right, but that's not the case this time around and even then, cars are going up in weight by over a hundred pounds each generation. That's pure insanity! What new tech weighs that much?

BMW is known for its SensaTec interior, maybe they are calling this new technology NonSensatech?

Just a thought - leave everything in car construction (materials and dimensions), then add the electronics and sensors that we all expect today - how much does the wire that connects all of that and the computers that control it all end up weighing?

Have you guys and gals seen the 3 Series LCI? The one thing that caught my attention is they actually gave it completely new headlights. I don't ever recall BMW redesigning headlights to this extent for an LCI model. They may change the lighting components, tint the lens etc., but not change the entire shape. So this got me thinking, maybe, just maybe the LCI for the G87 will get different headlights and that's why they designed the bumper with larger cutouts and used vents as a placeholder until the LCI comes out? I know it's a long shot, but what if...

An AWD M2 would be auto only most likely so keep your stinking AWD and give me a 6MT. Anyways RWD is the point of this car.

The "typical" lifespan for most BMW cars is 7yrs. The LCI or "mid lifecycle refresh" usually goes into production at the very start of the 4th model year.
Examples F22 Model Years: 2014 - 2020 F22 LCI Model Year: 2018 F87 Model Years: 2016 - 2022 F87 LCI Model Year: 2018 F32 Model Years: 2013 - 2019 F32 LCI Model Year: 2017 The G42 went into production in September 2021 as a 2022 model. Expect the G42 LCI to arrive as a 2026 MY, same goes for the G87. |

Good. I want auto. And that's similar to an M2 how? At 1/2 or 1/3 the price? My point is they are offering both on the other models. So why not offer both the M2. It would sell. There's a market. It's for other reasons only. M4 too big M240, as above Driven an RS3. Numb. No thanks. I'm not asking for the impossible. Quote:
A standard M2 is not in the same league as a GT4 or GT3. Seriously? That's CS/CSL territory. Oh yeah, the M4 CSL is RWD. Now that's the comparison. And no doubt they will release an M2 CS and/or CSL in the future to "rival" the GT4. Make that RWD only. be out of my budget anyway. Perhaps there will be a four wheel drive version of the Cayman when it goes electric. There is a 911 Carrera 4 incidentally. Offering Porsche customers the choice. Manual or auto options too. Not that it's directly comparable however it has been compared with the 1M/M2 in the past, but the Audi TTRS is AWD. Last edited by as7920; 05-21-2022 at 05:52 AM.. |

I was pointing out, not all Ms are AWD. You don't have to be combative, buy whatever floats your boat.
