First Christmas present. I know people say you are paying for the name but if anyone can point me towards a smoother scotch feel free.

A huge ice cube mold?

Funny story, a few years ago I bought a large cube mold and a few new Speigelau or Reidel glasses and the cubes were about 2mm bigger than the glass opening. Fancy fail.

Interesting you say that. My good friend just recommended the 16, because that's the only one available.

The 16 is great, and easy to find. The 8 is just a really cool, limited run with a little more upfront bite and burn that I really like for its more aggressive approach. But you can't go wrong with either.

I HATE it when that happens

So I just skip the ice. . .

Certainly the easiest approach. I like a splash of water, but in Texas summers, a really big ice cube that won't dilute things too fast extends whisk(e)y season for me.

Don't have any pictures, but I have a nice, new Glenmorangie 18 Single Malt waiting for me at home.

That is Irish whisky, IIRC. Redbreast is probably my fav of those. My taste runs more to the peaty, but Glenmorangie has several really nice subtle varieties (favorite is the Quinta Ruban - very complex, kind of a chocolate undertone).

Laphroaig is the kind, for me - the 10yo cask strength can't be beat, but Quarter Cask is also good, and often cheaper. Also loving the Bruichladdich heavily peated versions (they have a few, w/ different barley's) - not as 'rough' as the Laphroaig. Probably a/t from Islay that does not say 'unpeated'.

And also second the recc for 8yo Lagavulin, and agree totally w/ the quick review above; 16yo version is still the champ, but I like the younger ones lately.
