With how the reviewers seems to love the manual on the B58 Supra, I thought BMW was going to use the same manual and should be just as thrilled.
I am surprised how the reviews I've seen they seem to agree the shifter being "rubbery" or "springy" or something like that. Quote:

They were the only ones to say that the manual was somehow worse than the auto, specifically around its torque at high gear. Whether it's a quirk of their unit or just a scenario that no one else had a reason to try, it's strange how big of a deal they made of it.
Additionally the 'too much grip' is a bit of a weird complaint that feels like them reaching to not like the car. It might be different than the f87, but that's certainly not an objectively worse thing for a sports car. Lastly the obsession with going on and on about the weight when the f87 was also a bit of a porker, at only 200 lbs less, (the same f87 that they creamed their pants over). Just seems a bit weird to me. Overall I still think they produce some good content, but it certainly seemed like they went in trying to hate it  |

I traded in my 2021 M2C for a launch G82 6MT for practically all of the reasons they didn’t like the G87. More linear powerband, better power delivery to the ground, flat and composed handling, much improved rear end behavior, far better interior amenities and tech.

Of course I didn't expect to see it pull like my Z06 does in 4th gear at low speed. But you have to be honest and while watching that video you are thinking, "boy that thing is taking it's sweet time to spool up," eh? |

Rubbery
This will be my 3rd BMW manual. Its something you must experience for yourself to understand if you like it. I wouldn't take anyone's word. It is more than functional.

For what it's worth, the g80/82 manuals are not great either. Didn't really expect bmw to make a decent one when that hasn't been priority for a long time

Pretty disappointing overall- although I will say the Throttle House review had a pretty profound effect. Even though I generally don't agree 100% with their opinions, I love their channel and didn't necessarily expect them to trash it the whole time. I will place a huge caveat on Thomas being an F87 owner- they're just not the type of people who can remove their bias. Also... James... who lugs a car at 30mph in 4th gear? I challenge pretty much anyone to do that in their cars and walk away impressed with the acceleration. In fact, one of you F87 guys go do it and shoot a video of it. Settle this little debate once and for all...
That said, I was hoping for this car to be the one that brought me back to BMW. I have a 718 Boxster GTS 4.0 right now that isn't quite hitting all the notes from a practicality perspective (but yes the driving dynamics are nearly perfect), and I'm possibly in the market for a change. The M2 CS couldn't quite do it, and now it looks like I'll be skipping the G87 as well... even though the price point is truly appealing. I like the looks, but it doesn't make me want to stare like the M2 CS does. Or my Boxster. It sounds really good. Like, REALLY good. Color me impressed with how it sounded in every video (TH didn't really spend a lot of time talking about the sound but James clearly didn't like it). I think it sounded great in the Straight Pipes video, they did a lot of shots outside the car at full throttle. Thumbs up for sure. It's not a howling flat 6 but I can definitely live with it based off what I hear in the videos. But a persistent theme is that its driving dynamics are good but not great. Steering ok, shifter ok... and honestly, that's not good enough at its price point. Not when the Civic Type R, Supra manual, GR Corolla, etc. exist... this thing had to be clearly and demonstrably better than all of those cars and it just appears to be very ok. |

And Thomas had the nerve to say some snide ass remark like “If you’ve never driven a M2 before then this will feel as much M2 as any that has ever come out”. Like wtf

Throttle House is definitely an outlier in the reviews so far, but Thomas actually owns an M2 and I think that gives him more credibility from a direct comparison perspective.
Looking forward to thoughts from more critical reviewers such as SavageGeese, Matt Farah, and Jason Camisa. |

Allegedly the manual in the B58 Supra is the same unit in the G8X vehicles. |

Literally only they said the preferred the auto. Every other video and article i saw was them talking up the manual, so not sure I'd put too much stock in that lol

The Throttle House review really was a surprise but good to hear about other experiences. I would trust what the owner of a previous gen M2 to know what the car should drive like.
Regardless, not much has changed my opinion on the new M2. Sadly, it's heavy and ugly as expected, really the weight makes it hard to look at as a positive option. Hopefully, something can be fixed in a Competition model in the future.

If the car needs to go 10/10 to break loose, I might as well cut up my license or have an RS3. I like the car, I love the M2C, and I loved my rwd m235. This has me thinking. I didn’t love the look of the rear end, I do like the front, and I’m not pleased with any of the colours. Combine that with the dealer screwing me out of 1st on the list despite every build sheet saying I was, signed by the dealership GM. This might be the last straw for me. Been considering a 718 GTS 4.0 or a rwd 992 S. not that those are known for being unstable. It’s a tough decision because the M2 stands alone at its price point. It’s going to be a great car for anyone not looking to get sideways easily. |

Joe Achilles owns an M2 Comp, yet his opinion is voided despite clearly driving the car harder than pretty much any of the other reviewers.
Does it matter whether you own an M2 or not? |

He hates the way it looks but won’t comment on how it drives until he drops his review tomorrow morning. I will say if he complains at all about the weight of the car then I will laugh my ass off cuz he certainly isn’t helping matters by sitting in it!
