Can i get my car listed as a sedan with my insurance company and get a better rate?

I did some googling and the AI google tool says the M2 is not a sedan but then I googled "does a sedan have to have 4 doors" and this is what the google says:

No, a sedan doesn't have to have four doors. The main difference between a sedan and a coupe is the amount of interior space, with sedans having at least 33 cubic feet and coupes having less.

ummm that would result in you handing them less money over, so no. also, i'd imagine that the M3 guys could attest to insurance not being much cheaper

Yeah, basically that's my logic. I've owned a few 2 door sedans in my life (ex: 76 Regal). To me, the M2 feels like a coupe and the M4 feels like a sedan. YMMV of course.

You already said it. Drifting and kicking out the rear aren't quite the same thing.

The M2's shorter wheelbase and softer rear springs make it easier to toss the M2 around and break the rear free. As you noted, more for tight corners at slower speeds, mountain courses, and the like.

That's not quite the same thing as limit driving on power tracks. The M4 is the better car on the Ring, etc. I also assume it would do better in competitive drifting competitions, but that's not my scene.

Is it feel or form factor?

How can something feel like 2 or 4 doors? Do you mean "sportier"? Are you saying that the M2 is more a sports car than the M4? I can understand that; but I'm not sure the number of doors determines how sporty something is. Some sedans are sportier than coupes. Maybe I'm missing the point you're making altogether.

On another note - are we subscribing to the notion that you can have 2 door sedans? Would that mean that we can have 4 door coupes? Genuinely curious.

2 door sedans have been a thing for a long, long time. just because "marketing experts" decide to call an apple an orange doesnt make it so.

and i would say no. but if you find me a 4 door with no b pillar, no three box design, and a cut roofline, ill show you a coupe

just to be clear while it can probably technically exist, i dont believe a single one does, and the design cues would probably look terrible around a 4 door body.

BMW markets 4 door coupes already, no? Gran Coupe? But yeah the whole thing is a bit ambiguous

RR Ghost tries but I can't think of any that fit your description to a T. I'm just playing devils advocate here. My taste just isn't that nuanced.

Right. I think the whole thing got started when MB called the CLS a coupe. I remember the uproar. Seems standard fare these days after all the manufacturers beat us over the head with it.

For me, it's the feel inside the cabin. The longer doors push the B pillar out of my line of sight. The shorter roofline (front to back) makes the cabin seem more open.

YMMV, I'm sensitive to the feel of cabins, one of the reasons I like my old E90 is because of the low waistline and bright greenhouse. One of the reasons I didn't like Camaros (and Supras for that matter) was the stifling feel and low visibility.

Mercedes does label the AMG GTs as 4-door coupes. The logic is that a sloped roof makes it a coupe.

But to ME, they are sedans. The B pillar remains far enough forward to block visibility during sharp turns, the front doors remain small. And the roofline is long enough that you don't get a lot of light through the rear window.

But I stress this: SHRRRRUUUG. Not a hill I'm gonna die on.

BMW labels the i4 as a GC and it's not the B pillar. It's the sloped profile and no frames on the windows.

I have an i4 and although it looks more like a 3 series, the frames on the windows are missing.

But I'm buying an M2 and not an M4 because I have an i4 and don't need two cars that look alike*AND* I like the overall looks of the M2 vs M4. Thé M2 reminds me of the E30 M3 I owned. It's definitely got the same "boy racer" vibe of the E30.

Lots of folks are oblivious to this. About the only thing I hate on my M3

Can't wait to get back into a coupe . LOS and peripheral vision is everything to me + adds more confidence/safety especially on tight bends

It wasn’t too many years ago when BMW was still putting a manual trans paired with turbo I6 and xdrive. Now that, paired with a RWD drift mode like these new M cars have would be a winner for me.

When I was checking insurance prices when shopping multiple cars, the M2 was cheaper than the M3 or M4 to insure. My M240i is cheaper than my M340i was. Was that not the case for you?
