Yes, it does. You don’t need to open up the App everytime. Only when you need to change Maps.
No, M mode will not change anything to the RaceChip.

Does it make sense to buy a RaceChip GTS if you're going to be stuck with 91 octane?

For example, why purchase the "additional" maps via the GTS Black if you're only going to be able to use the 91 octane map. Does anyone think that the 91 octane map is different on the "RS" vs the "GTS Black"?

Thanks

Yes, they are.
RS map 6 is GTS Black map 6.
Also the benefit of GTS Black is built-in warm-up timer, engine warranty, 1x free reprogramming in 2 years of ownership.
Lastly, better resale value.

I'm sorry, I got a little confused with your post. Is the map 6 of the RS the same as the map 6 of the GTS Black?

Also, can you use map 7 with 93?

Based of my understanding, yes.
You can use any map with 93.
The better the gas, the better it perform.
Just nothing lower than 91.

It's tough to say since racechip does not allow dataloging to check how the car is reacting, and they also do not share the amount of PSI each map is adding.

Based on my testing, my car with 91 octane seemed to perform more reliably with map 6 than map 7, which might be an indication that it's dropping timing on map 7 (again can't say for sure without datalog).

I would use max map 6 with 91 only
and use map 7 with 93, or if you are mixing a few gallons of E85 with 91

Thank you for both of your answers. What about in the m240i, would that be the same (map 6 max with 91, map 7 with 93)?

I'm still deciding between both.

US maps is made to handle California 91 octane as a minimum gas.
So, yes, even on the M240, map 7 is good for 91 or better.
Just remember, some gas station will cheat you on 91. The minimum I go for testing is Costco 91.
I know, because I assist RaceChip in collecting data and testing the map for US BMWs whenever I have the cars or able to get the cars. Such as most recent are, G09 XM, F95/F96 X5M/X6M, G8x M2/M3/M4, G05 M60i, G42 M240, etc.

I would use the same map recommendation with the M240 as well.

Hi there,

I have a GTS (not black!) for a Honda CR-V which is about 30 months old so out of free reprogramming. Currently stationed in Thailand.

Could I send you my unit to have you reprogram it to the G87 M2 that's waiting for me in Europe in the coming summer?

Would really appreciate your response.

Best Regards

Unfortunately, GTS can’t be reprogrammed to G87 since it uses GTS Black.
Besides, you will need to contact your regional RaceChip office to handle your case.

With all due respect, if you ever have an engine failure (which is the only time any of this matters) BMW will absolutely insist on a full scan before authorizing warranty repairs.

It's not in the hands of the dealer. In fact, depending on how costly the repairs are, BMW NA will send a regional tech in.

If I have an engine failure at this point, it's not going to BMW for a repair. My car is pretty modified now and I wouldn't expect BMW to warranty the drive train being I've switched fuels and turned it up quite a bit.

I didn't want them scanning my car because I didn't want it flagged by bmw.

Yes, I've watched your latest video - great stuff, keep it up - and know you are now fully unlocked on E, etc.

I was posting more for the benefit of those like me, who are on the fence about doing a piggy back stealth mod or not.

It's not an easy choice. Racechip can take you from the detuned G87 to the CS/CSL power level for $700 bucks. If it was not for the new Ista ability to cross check parameters from the multiple computers when the powertrain scan is run, a lot more people would be plugging in the Racechip (and similar). The comprehensive scan at the touch of a button is what is deterring me.

Anyone turn their racechip up to 7 yet? What boost pressures you seeing? Did some pulls at level 5 and it was amazing, but I am curious what pressures others are seeing at 5 and 7? TIA.

i used map7 for a while on my car, cant tell you the boost since racechip does not datalog, i suspect its another .5 to 1 PSI more than map 6.

i got more power than map 6 but it was not as consistent. some pulls were great; others were not. i suspect it was dropping timing on some of the pulls but cant tell for sure without data logging.

Has anyone looked into MOSSELMAN ITRONIC? At first glance, it looks like it's giving really good numbers compared to RaceChip.

For the money, it seems like going with unlocking would be the better idea.
