I’ll take detailed pictures of it when I get it back from ppf and ceramic coating. Should be Friday.

I may be naive but I’m less concerned that there is a major structural problem if they are willing to deliver the cars to customers.

Every car has recalls. Our 21 F150 has probably had more than 10 so far.

Congrats! It looks great… What are your full specs?

The replacement of any factory seam sealer should be a dead giveaway.

No idea if this is a coincidence to this issue or what, but my front left tire is always 5-6 degrees hotter than all the other tires. I don't think it's a sensor issue, when I start the car, all the temps are the same. When I stop driving, the temps will all match up. No hard driving at all, just seems off to me.

I wont call it naive but if its not a major safety issue, they arent going to hold up 100s and 100s of cars that have been built to sit at ports and/dealerships (especiallywhen they dont have the fix available). They will deliver and then announce a recall. If its fully built and off the assembly line, the dealerships are the most logical place to have the repairs done (the ports can do some but not a boatload of 2 and 3 series cars...they dont have the manpower capacity nor *******. If its still on the line at a point prior to completion, it may be easier and more sensible, or even economical, to keep at the plant to make the repair.

Another thought to ponder...the campaign from March that had the clunking noise from the front end (with a possible repair of replacing the tie rod ends), could that be related to this???

BMW stamps their own sheetmetal in Europe https://www.bmwgroup-werke.com/en/pr...roduction.html. Are we sure these body parts are from a third party?

We dont know for sure what are the "bad" parts. Could be hardware, braces, supports, inner body part, etc.

Yes, within the EU they do. Plant Spartanburg is BMW’s largest manufacturing facility in the world and they do stamp their own sheet metal. 100% no sheet metal production at SLP.

Edit, Plant SLP overview https://www.bmwgroup-werke.com/san-l...-overview.html

The strut tower top actually seems to be diecast aluminum that is bonded and riveted to the unibody. It is not magnetic and has external strengthening ribs, so won’t be stamped. I also consistently have a 3C warmer left front tyre once the engine has warmed up, but this seems to be more related to the engine cooling / remote radiator than to suspension misalignment. I just did a rough camber and wheelbase check on my car and the camber is within 0.1 degree side-to-side and 1mm in wheelbase length on each side, so the suspension seems even.

You can see the tower strengthening ribs in the photo. The tower issues could be related to the top strut bearing mount to the tower, as opposed to the tower casting itself, as dimensionally and material wise it is very unlikely to have any dimensional variation from component to component due to the nature of the die and casting process itself.

If the problem is machining of holes, threads or surfaces in the tower, a tool could easily be created to re-machine and/or add inserts to rectify problems, with no long term or cosmetic issues, without anything more than strut and other components on the top of the tower being removed to attach the rework tool.

The pressure is consistent, but a 3C air temperature difference only equates to 0.03 bar / 0.4 PSI pressure difference at 2.2 bar / 32 PSI tyre pressure (absolute pressure of 3.06 bar at my altitude for 2.2 bar tyre pressure is proportional to absolute temp change, which at the current 23C ambient is 299K/296K, i.e. 3.09 bar). The pressure displayed is only to the nearest 0.1 bar or 1 PSI.

This is a video of some of the production at SLP.
At 1:29 into the video it looks to be several 2 series coupes body in white. It goes by quick but pause the video and you can see the strut tower assembly.

If there's any issues with the strut tower on my car, I'm taking it to Mat Armstrong 😂

The driver's front tire temperature thing is nothing and caused by the high temp rad sitting right in front of that tire. The passenger side rad is part of the low temp system (intercooler mainly). My f8x m4 and f8 m2c are the same exact way.

Those are quite the structural pieces, not like the old stamped sheetmetal ones.

Whomever mentioned that it could be the strut mount versus the actual strut tower has a very valid point as the failure rate and getting a bad batch is much higher. Yet the Stop Sale specifically states “Strut Tower.”
