You’d need a single light flywheel and possibly diff synchros.

This car doesn’t like to slam gears like a Tremec, but can. You just need to finesse it perfectly. I still don’t recommend it. Thankfully I did not get all the way in 2nd at the top of 3rd when moving into 4th, I just bounced right off it and grinded the gear decently. Engine spun to 7.2k but limited on the limiter.

No damage to trans or engine that we got from code and it drives normally and I’ve gotten on it plenty since that happened.

The solution would be a new gear selector like a SSK or the CAE. This will void your warranty with trans related future issues that may arise but will mitigate this flimsy issue.

TL;DR: S58 too fast for 6MT components, not the actual trans though. Temperamental and likes to be driven hard but not drag racer hard, but will if you really finesse the car and have perfect clutch drops.
appreciate your detailed reply and closing the loop for us I hope you don't lose passion for m2 because of this issue!! Edit: love your build man!

Thanks! Unfortunately I am. I will likely get rid of it in 2025 for something else that can put down more power.

I’ve got a 2000 join date at NASIOC, lol. Was buying Subarus in the late 90s. Had the first 2.5RS in my city, maybe my state. It got worse when the WRXs and STIs came out. I’ve owned/family owned 11 Subarus. Have one in the garage now, barely. When this one’s done, not sure if it’ll get replaced by another one. They’ve drifted and abandoned a lot of their base and are aiming to just build appliances like Toyota.

2007 Join date here. I came with the WRXs and STis lol. Had an 07, 11 and still have my low mileage 2020 STi with FP green, flex set up. I kicked it out of the garage when the M2 came and intended to sell but Just can’t let it go. Too fun of a car.

^^ Don’t sell it! Love that body - the new one SUCKS. I think the MY27 will be entirely black plastic cladding. They will have achieved full clad.

I wish they continued the hatch.
Although I’m kinda glad they didn’t… I wouldn’t want an all plastic hatch door

I went with a 2025 M2 6spd, I probably will track minimally but do like to have a little fun on the street. I'm shooting for 600whp/tq. Other than a ptb clutch, CDV removal, and short shifter/rear carrier will I need anything else for the transmission?

I see all of us were probably in similar spots 15-20 years ago - we wanted a sporty manual car but couldn't afford the E46 M3 in our youth haha

They'll call it All-Clad then get sued by the fancy pot and pans company. (on that note their cookware is freakin fantastic lmao)

To everyone in here:

BMW has stated nothing was wrong with codes, engine, trans. They said the only thing we could do was change gear selector since the one in G chassis is flimsy (it dates back to the e92).

On my own dime, I got:
-Full compression test
-drained diff fluid and checked for abnormal glitter
-changed oil and checked for abnormal glitter + black stone test.
-ran more codes
-had my performance shop test drive to the limit (they have 30 years experience).

Insane how sturdy these engines and trans are built.

Just wanted to sum up everything. I’m upgrading the clutch and gear selector (SSK) and rear carrier and have sent out my ECU for a nice ole unlock.

Will push around 600hp.

Knowing it’s flawlessly fine from our tests, yes.

What clutch? The CAE I have helped a bit but it's still notchy as I've mentioned elsewhere. I have to return it to stock if I want BMW to look at it for the 1st gear pop-out issues.

You're spot on about it being a finniky transmission.
