First ride of the year!
63rpm, 9.5mph, 120HR for 30 miles. 55degF, flat paved trail, light winds and moderate trail traffic. Bike ran well. I cleaned and lubed the drivetrain a few weeks ago, and replaced pads and rotors late last season. I ran out of (caloric) gas at 20 miles so I stopped and got a Gatorade and food. Need to adjust my caloric intake, it has been a while since I have done this much exertion. |

Plus, since I retired from racing, there is no point for me to stay uber fit like I was for so many years. I still get on the indoor trainer from time to time but keep the average power levels low with just an occasional push to several hundred watts.

Last Sunday was my Half-Marathon so I had 2 weeks off. Did 30 miles today, next Sunday is the Metric Century. Hope I'm ready.
I always thought it was a thing and was wondering if it'd happen to me. When a motorcycle rides by and acts like they're pedaling as a friendly jab. Finally happened to me but only as I was driving home I guess cause they saw my bike on the roof.

I was finally able to get another bike commute in on Tuesday - 19 miles round trip, 906 feet of elevation gain. You're not kidding about Mt. Level! I'm hoping May allows for more commuting days - it should.

30 miles, good ride. 128HR for 2hr 50min, 74rpm cadence.
I think part of the reason my cadence is what it is, is because I cross a number of public roads where I need to slow down and often stop for ~30 seconds. Certainly the deceleration cadence is in the data and calculation, what I am not sure of is whether or not the zero rpm stops are included. Does anyone know? |

If you have to stop and start a lot, then your average will be lower simply because starting up again will be at a lower RPM, so it drags the average down. My avg on my last ride, which was 35 miles, was 79 even though I'm usually pedaling in the mid-80s. So your 74 is about normal for a mostly 80-ish RPM ride.

Thanks M_Six. I use Wahoo speed and cadence sensors. The app has “include zero cadence…” turned off.
Violet data is cadence, blue is speed. The gap is where I stopped at 15 miles for fuel. Second half of the ride had stronger headwinds. Last edited by chassis; 04-28-2025 at 06:27 AM.. |

We moved to another small town south of Houston so I took four months off. Getting the road bike out and trying to explore the trails down here. The tails aren't as long as the circuits in the city but they're trying. They need to work on the links, too many transitions through traffic for my liking but I'm sorting it out.

22 miles today. Different kind of ride - I incorporated the ride with errands in a fairly dense suburban area. Weather was in the low 50s, the low end of my willingness-to-ride zone. My hands were cold most of the ride but I stuck with it.
In summary, good ride. A few miles included my standard bike/run/walk trail and I realized how much I enjoy it, compared with sidewalks and paths alongside busy roads. |
