I'm also not sure how many people are going to be putting on as many highway miles as I am. If I were only driving around town or at lower speeds then I would probably be with you, but I'm doing 60 miles a day on the interstate. I need the protection more than most people.

Installed on ZB with painted IND front insert. Lost daylight so best I could do is garage lights.
I don’t hate it. I may even like it. Will judge more tomorrow in daylight.
One benefit for me is it precludes getting front CF inserts, which are way $$$.

Thanks for posting! I am frankly just extremely relieved there is professional looking product on the market to resolve this issue.

I am curious though if that black plastic isn't very easily scratched? I'm guessing these don't have rubber coating? I wonder if there is any kind of thin foam padding that might help protect the plastic where the hooks grab on.

I'm going to PPF the car when it comes in. I'm wondering how well these will play with any PPF that might cover those areas.

I can tell you that I did scratch the plastic in few places during install. You should probably be more careful then me and use masking tape as suggested by instructions. Those marks are behind the grilles so I can pretend it didn’t happen.

Installed mine tonite. Thought the bottom right side clip on the outer intake was in. After I put the top clip in I realized it wasn’t. So I scratched the lower crappy swirl loving piano black trim a bit. But it’s hidden by the lower clip. Can’t even see it. I’m not planning to take these off so it’s all good.

I drive 70 miles a day to work on the interstate, so I’m happy to have these. Need all the protection I can get here in these parts.

Now I need to get the underneath oil cooler rad cover. But I believe this will be less of a problem with my driving.

The small ducts either side of center are for brake cooling. Really no reason to protect those; might look better without, IMO. Any debris that gets in can be vacuumed or blown out.

Another option?

Saw this on Facebook. The mesh goes behind the center elements which looks a LOT better, and no zip ties. So maybe the fascia needs to be removed? Might be worth it. Use Google Translate if necessary. There is an online shop but don't see the G87 listed. I've sent an inquiry.

Please keep us posted on this. I was reluctantly going to order zunsport, but I like this a lot more. Also, why the hell couldn't BMW just do this from the factory?

Yeah, please keep up posted. I contacted Zunsport and they will be testing the grill on a car with the active cruise and report back but… I certainly like this look better.

I received a quick response back from Japan:

“Hello Williams-san,

Thank you very much for your interest in Studie's mail order department.
This part needs to be installed with the bumper removed.
It is a special part and is made individually.
It is possible to create the mesh, but do you think you can work with it?
Please contact Studie AG Ishizuka for more information.

Thank you Akimitsu Ishizuka
E-mail:
ishizuka@studie.jp

So, it is semi-custom. They could supply the mesh, but unless you are comfortable with removing the front fascia you would have to engage a body shop at the cost of several hundred $. Still, may well be worth it.

I will ask for more details.

Ok as in its a good idea configuration. Use without the brake duct screens. I agree. Didnt mean belittle anything.

Zunsport screens installed. No brake duct screens needed. I like them overall. The driver side small screen was a bit difficult. The top clip was difficult to the point where it didnt look like it would work at all.

I reset both and set the top one first. The directions supplied recommend setting the bottom first. Eventually it set/installed properly. That was the only difficulty. The center screen was very very easy.

Was good to install these and take a good look at the debris that had accumulated in such a small time of owning. Fortunately not major impacts so far at 4800km's. Glad to have these installed for a bit more ease of mind at speed etc.

BMW should have done exactly this from the factory. I swear I hate this brand sometimes.

Checked the screens after the fun drive this morning. Passenger side top connection was loose/disconnected. Seemed perfect last night. Reset it easily. Seems very solid now. No other issues so far. No major affect on cooling as another member had said they measured airflow reduction. So far no problem. Drive this morning was dry and 12C.

That mesh is likely around 75% open area, so there is some airflow reduction, but with the ram effect of speed it is likely not enough to matter.

This is what I received back:

"Hello Williams,

Sorry. Mail order is not possible. The material is aluminum mesh.
The mounting method is a special pin and hot bond.

The reason why mail order is not available is because they have to be made one at a time and we are not prepared to mass produce them.
If the bumpers can be removed, it is not that difficult a task in my opinion.

Sorry about this time. Have a good BMW LIFE! Thank you very much.

Has anyone insalled the zunspot screens on a black G87 yet? I would love to see some pics if so.
