It's more of a small M4 than bespoke M2, minus the crappy seats, more so than the last "F" generation M2 (engineer's statement).

Same exact wheels as the M4; 275/35/19 front and 285/30/20 rear.

It's going to be putting out the same power as the F gen M2 CS 404TQ and 444HP.

You want to know what it performance like right now, put on a review video of an M4 and squint your eyes until it's 4 inches smaller and Voilà, a sneak peak of the next gen M2.
This means that this car will be slightly faster than the outgoing M2C and slower than the M2CS, especially with the 6MT. Same torque (but at higher revs), same gear ratios but more weight -> slower acceleration at low speed and a bit faster at high revs than the M2C (just like the G8x 6MT vs the F8x 6MT), and definitely slower than the CS. Better the 8AT thanks to the shorter ratios, but with these figures I don't expect a big jump over its predecessor, and that's a shame.
The G8x Competition is much faster than the F8x, even the CS.

Talking straight line acceleration yes but even though I am not looking forward to aquiring a G87 (except if they do a CS/CSL) I have high hopes in the handling department with the better suspension and way more rubber on the ground.

Oh, it might have slightly more power but put out the same speed measurement as the previous generation, as it is with the F to G generation M3/4.

More or less the same power delivery with a little more top-end endurance.

Who cares about the seats! How about the screen. It's like they didn't care at all and just took what was left over from the ix parts bin. . Just starting a new topic here…

They are not using the new X1 screen apparently which looks a bit better with the curved sides and without that ugly support arm behind the right side.

The X1 screen would definitely look better than the crap going in the G87. Still would prefer not to have an Ipad mounted on the dash but I wouldn't complain if it had the screen in the new X1

Wait, so that screen is real and not some pre production data gathering device??

I would prefer to not have yet another screen shoved in front of my face after staring at screens all day (office) and night (home). Although, what do I know? Bring on the pixels!!!

Actually wanted to talk about the wheels on the test cars, aren't those are the 825m? Will the 826m be an option? Between the 2, I like the 826m just a tad more on the G80/82 but I'm thinking the 825m is going to look better on the M2

According to ynguldyn
Quote:
The wheels will be 19" front and 20" rear, G87 specific design.
We haven't seen them yet and no idea if the M3/4 wheels will also be an option from factory.

Now that we've put that to bed, how about we talk about seats some more?

Fine, I'll finally mention it, since it's barely on anyone's radar here

I'm coming to terms with them ugly ass pews, mostly because it means the alternative is I would have to cough up another $4,000 for some compromising alternative.. 😗

The Goldilocks M seating (not too hot/not too cold) would of been the M4 standards, with some color leather choices. I wouldn't mind throwing down $2,200 for some premium red or peanut butter interior. But I guess they didn't want to take any luster away from their bread & butter model, the G80/2. Which, from business perspective, I kind of understand but it royally sucks for a end-consumer's position.

One can still dream

Because screaming to the skies would not change the inevitable; these economy rental car - esque seats are the G87's fate until the model is up for a revision, which is a good 3 to 4 years away.. A design decision such as this was probably years in the making and any changes will happen at a glacier pace, so it's counter-productive to dwell on it.

So is either you wait it out until something better is offered or make the best of the worst, I guess.. So, I'm throwing in the towel and picking the latter..

I don’t think in this particular instance it’s written in stone. They already make these seats and a decision to offer them or not won’t take years. Just my 2 cents.

Would love to talk about wheels.

It was said they're using the G8X 826m wheels but who's what's true anymore. Good looking wheels so I'd be fine with that.

Yah it will be 826m only i think they will offer it in probably two finishes and different tire setups.

I get what you are saying and to the layman, one would assume they could simply just raid the M4's locker, change the badging on the seat emblem to "M2" then throw them into a G87 and just like that, problem solved.

However, here in the US market, there are strict regulatory requirements on the position of each specific seat and its perpendicularity to the side-impact airbags, unique to the size and dimensions of each said vehicle.

So, technically, even if they fit find, they simply won't just throw any seat into a specific model without making sure it meets the local regulatory standards, resources which I assume they would not be willing to undertake yet again, unless it's an absolute necessity (like a recall) or the model is up for revision.

Appears they've been sporting the black 825m which would be nice as an option. I don't think the 825m in black is offered on the G80/82

It will definitely be better as it already is for any Fxx vs. Gxx, no doubt about it, the new platform is great.
More rubber, stiffer chassis, longer wheelbase and more weight, however, also mean a less playful character. But it will definitely be a great car to drive.

Well, 0-60 in part (too much influenced by traction limits and launch control strategy, and does not say much about the real performance on a RWD car), the performance of the G8x Competition is on another level compared to the old one, you can clearly feel the increased power and torque (basically the new one is as fast as the old one with a stage 1 tuning on a 100-200 launch), while with the 6MT version the performance is about the same level as the F8x. The gap between the Competition and the base is quite large.
Unfortunately the new M2 with these figures seems to be very close to its predecessor in terms of straight performance, it would need at least 470 hp and 600 nm in my opinion.
