I like my OG M2 better…but I like the G42 much, much better than the F22.
I’ll give it to BMW on pricing though…the new M240i is only $200 more than the ‘21. I’m sure the new 6MT M2 will eventually replace my F87…now I just can’t wait to see it! |

The 230 looks better. The black (look blue in the pics) rocker panels are awful. Make the car look like it's riding high. Much better in body color. Plus the bumpers are a cleaner design on the 230.
I am eagerly awaiting the g87 but after seeing this I fear the black rockers will be present just like the g80/82. :-/ |

This article sums it up nicely:
https://www.motor1.com/news/518516/2...ries-revealed/ The proportions and stance of the new 2 Series are very nice, but there are details that let the coupe down. For starters, the M240i's front bumper treatment is oddly sharp and geometrical, at odds with the otherwise conventional styling – the 230i is better composed in this regard. And the taillights of both look misshapen, with angular accent lights swimming in a sea of black housing material. And not everyone loves the bulging fenders, particularly the sharp vertical break behind the front wheel. The 2022 BMW 2 Series has finally done away with its standard manual transmission, with both 230i and M240i models coming exclusively with an eight-speed Steptronic gearbox. That's a real shame, particularly in a car that's supposed to recall the 2002, a holy grail for performance purity. At least it boasts launch control and a "Sprint" function, which switches to the lowest possible gear when after the driver holds the left shift paddle for one second. The 2022 BMW 2 Series is a bit larger than the vehicle it replaces. The 230i is 4.3 inches longer, 2.6 inches wider, and a full inch lower, resting on a 107.9-inch wheelbase, up 2 from the outgoing car – the M240i is 3.5 inches longer and 0.1-inch lower, with the other increases porting over. The 230i weighs 3,519 pounds, up from 3,386 in the old model, while the M240i xDrive weighs 3,871 pounds (up 352 from its 2021 equivalent). Yet in spite of those dimensional increases, the new 2 has a bit less headroom, shoulder room, and legroom for both front and rear passengers than its predecessor. The trunk is likewise cut from 13.1 cubic feet to just 10.0 cubes, so folks trading in an old 2 Series should make sure all their stuff will fit in the new one. We applaud BMW for giving the new 2 Series some styling restraint, with excellent rear-drive proportions and a subdued front grille. The lack of a manual transmission option is sad and there are definitely some confusing design choices, but that likely won't matter to BMW's current clientele, who seem to appreciate exuberance more than classical styling and an involving driving experience. While it might not be the 2002 redux we all dream of, the 2022 BMW 2 Series should still be a hot seller for the company. |

Interior and front are fine but the rear end is trash.
Also, wtf is up with those door handles?

A Toyota Supra with much more room. Should be nice. Longer length a d wheelbase hopefully solves old bounce ends problem on highways and streets where car would jump or country around due to short wheelbase and suspension setup. Hopefully resolved this time around. No work on reduction of sound/noise as well. Would be nice if they had acoustic glass as an option to make it more quiet as well. Last one can get noisy inside car.

The BMW 2002 Hommage (see here): presented in 2016 - and not forgotten. ("Occupying centre stage at the front end is the familiar BMW kidney grille. Here, it takes the form of a low-standing, connected unit, offering a flesh slant on the kidneys’ historical rendering as a cohesive design element. Sculpted, black double-bars add finesse to the details of the broad-set grille. Like the BMW 2002, the BMW 2002 Hommage also has two single headlights that provide the striking front end with its outer limits.") E20 2002 Turbo (see here):

245 section tires for the front is a nice factory upgrade over the 225s that even the m340/m440 come with. Bmw getting more serious about front end grip.
I wonder if those will become an upgrade up the chain as well? |

I really don't care about these kinds of things too much, but it seems kinda odd.
From the Motor1 article: "Yet in spite of those dimensional increases, the new 2 has a bit less headroom, shoulder room, and legroom for both front and rear passengers than its predecessor. The trunk is likewise cut from 13.1 cubic feet to just 10.0 cubes, so folks trading in an old 2 Series should make sure all their stuff will fit in the new one." So like, what was the point of making it bigger and heavier? |

While I would only be interested in an M2, this isn't horrible, but again, that shouldn't be the customer's response to a newly hyped car.
The front: Normal grilles, I love it. The M240i triangle bumper doesn't look good, the 230i front bumper looks much better. The rear: What in the world, I remember those leaked taillights and thought it was a joke. Also, why does the rear seems like it ends so flat and boxy, I'm not about it. Weight, that's no fun being heavy. No manual sucks to see in a sporty coupe, no reason to buy the M240i compared to the Supra unless you need backseats. Hopefully, the M2 continues on this better track but like a universally liked design. M2 with a 230i styled front bumper or just retrofit it on, wide fenders, manual S58, 3600lbs or less like M2 Comp, and I guess some normal red DEPO taillights in Hockenheim Silver again please and thank you. Edit: I did a 5-minute Photoshop job and fixed the rear taillights. I'm not saying use the same old taillights but keeping the good and well-designed rear that everyone liked and iterated on that would be a major improvement. After looking at this car more I'm now totally fine with it even though there's definitely room for improvement in the LCI. The rear probably looks cool at night. It could've been much worse design-wise so let's just be thankful it's not an abomination.

Looks like an entry level BMW targeting a younger demographic. And I'm pretty sure that's what they were going for.
Can't wait to see the G87
